A mother with a concealed carry license sues the city of Chicago after authorities file murder charges.

According to Fox News, Carlishia Hood, 45, is bringing charges against the Windy City and a handful of police officers over claims of false arrest, malicious prosecution, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, as reported by CBS News.

The mother and her 14-year-old son were victims of Jeremy Brown, 32, on June 18. Camera footage shows Brown punching Hood, which ultimately led to the fatal shooting of Brown. This incident occurred after Brown and Hood argued while standing in line at a hot dog fast-food restaurant. After the argument started, Hood texted her son, who was waiting in her car and pleaded for help.

When Hoods son entered the restaurant, coming to his mothers defense, he pulled a gun from his hoodie and fatally shot Brown. Prosecutors said the teenager shot Brown in the back. Brown fled from the restaurant as Hood urged her son to continue shooting.

Brown ultimately succumbed to a gunshot wound.

She and her son were charged with first-degree murder. The charges were dropped a few days later.

Concerning the arrests, Hood said, My life changed. My sons life changed. Ive experienced pain in many ways that I would never have thought. What happened to me was totally unnecessary. Never in a million years would I have imagined being brutally attacked, beaten, and [being] arrested. Hood has a concealed carry license for her firearm and a FOID identification card used in gun possession and purchase in Illinois. Prosecutors have not given a valid reason for dropping the charges. The Cook County States Attorneys office said prosecutors are unable to meet our burden of proof in the prosecution of these cases.

Hoods lawyers say there was an obvious rush to judgment in authorities arresting the pair after Hood said the murder victim attacked her without provocation.

CBS News reported that attorney Brandon Brown said, You dont have to be a lawyer to appreciate and recognize that when a woman is violently attacked by a man an unarmed woman that she shouldnt be arrested. And if any one of you were to replace Carlishia Hood with your mother, with your sister, with your daughter; if your mother, or sister, or daughter were attacked in a restaurant when shes trying to order a cheeseburger, would you expect that she would be arrested?

Hood thanked the Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx for dropping the charges against her and her son.
