In an emphatic speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority Policy Conference, former Vice President Mike Pence declared his endorsement for a nationwide ban on abortion before 15 weeks.
Pence, who launched his presidential campaign earlier this month, believes that every Republican presidential candidate should back this restriction.
"In every Republican candidate for President should support a ban on abortion before 15 weeks as a minimum nationwide standard," Pence affirmed in his speech. This initiative will likely fuel the pro-life and pro-choice debate, underscoring one of the most contentious issues in American politics.
On the same day, President Joe Biden, an advocate for pro-choice policies, communicated his commitment to opposing such a ban. He unequivocally stated that he would veto any such legislation if passed by Congress. This stance has earned him support from groups like the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, a key player in the pro-choice advocacy space.
The President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Alexis McGill Johnson, in a statement, warned against the intentions of anti-abortion politicians. "We know, clear as day, that if anti-abortion politicians gain control of the White House, they will exploit their power toward their ultimate goal: a national abortion ban," she asserted.
McGill then expressed her support for Biden and Vice President Harris, underlining the importance of their re-election in preserving reproductive rights. "That is why we must re-elect President Biden and Vice President Harris: people we can trust to keep rebuilding a path forward, because we know the journey to rebuilding our rights will be met with challenges," she noted.
