Elon Musk has called for an audit of American taxpayer dollars being spent on the war in Ukraine.
This follows a tweet from Senator Rand Paul, who suggested that the US needs to reconsider how corrupt the Ukrainian government is before offering it more money. Paul noted that a top judge in Kyiv was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a bribery scheme that occurred in 2016. Musk responded to the senators post on Twitter, stating that Some accounting of how American taxpayer money is being spent sure sounds like a reasonable request!
Musk's sentiment echoes that of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has repeatedly demanded an audit of all US taxpayer dollars "given in any form to Ukraine." Greene suggested that the funds being sent for the war effort may "really be funding something else thats happening, maybe lining up Democrat donors pockets? Was that helping Democrat campaigns and candidates get elected?
Rep. Matt Gaetz has suggested that defunding Ukraine should be a priority for the US. In early February, Newsweek reported that there were ten Republican lawmakers who backed Gaetzs proposition. They were Reps. Andy Biggs, Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Anna Paulina Luna, Thomas Massie, Mary Miller, Barry Moore, Ralph Norman, and Matt Rosendale.
The proposal to defund Ukraine came before it was discovered that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials had embezzled around $400 million of US aid that was meant to go toward the purchase of diesel.
However, it appears the Pentagon recently discovered an accounting error, which will see another $6.2 billion of American tax dollars going toward the conflict in Ukraine. The Pentagon stated that after discovering the alleged error, there was now more money to support Ukraine as it pursues its counteroffensive against Russia.
Additionally, Ukraine has just secured a deal with BlackRock and JPMorgan Chase, which will see the financial institutions attempt to draw private investors into Ukraine to help reconstruct the country. The estimated amount of capital it will take to rebuild Ukraine is $411 billion.
Many have been skeptical of BlackRocks shadowy dealings, and this manifested in the recent revelations that OKeefe Media Group released. An undercover OMG journalist asked BlackRock recruiter Serge Varlay what they thought about the Ukraine-Russia war. He responded: Russia blows up Ukraines grain silos. The price of wheats gonna go mad up.
"So what are you gonna do if youre a trading firm? The moment that news hits, within a millisecond, youre going to pump trades into whoever the wheat suppliers are. Into their stocks. Within an hour or two that stick goes f*cking up and then you sell and you just make, I dont know, however many mil."
It remains to be seen whether an audit of American taxpayer dollars being spent on the war in Ukraine will be carried out. However, Musk and Greene's calls for transparency and accountability are likely to resonate with many Americans who are concerned about how their tax dollars are being spent.
