Michael Alfonso, the 26-year-old son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, won Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District and will become the youngest member of Congress, according to the Daily Mail.
Alfonso, a Republican, defeated Democrat Fred Clark, a former state legislator, 56.1% to 43.9%, according to Decision Desk HQ. The Associated Press called the race on election night.
He will succeed Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany, who gave up the seat to run unsuccessfully for governor. Duffy himself represented the sprawling, mostly rural northern Wisconsin district from 2011 to 2019.
Born in February 2000, Alfonso will be the first member of Congress born in the 21st century, 9News reported. He will take the youngest-member title from Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL), 29, when the new Congress convenes Jan. 3, 2027.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was 29 when she won in 2018, and Frost was 25 when he took office. Alfonso, at 26, will be younger than both were when they arrived.
Alfonso married Duffy's daughter Evita in June 2022 at one of President Donald Trump's golf courses in New Jersey. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Rosita, earlier this year.
Trump endorsed Alfonso as a "MAGA Warrior." He won a bruising August primary in which rivals hammered his family ties and lack of political experience.
His campaign also drew criticism after $1 million was moved from Duffy's old congressional campaign account to a political action committee backing Alfonso, PBS Wisconsin reported. Alfonso previously worked in construction and produced content for the Dan Bongino Show.
On the trail, Alfonso pitched himself as a voice for younger Americans. He campaigned on making Trump's tax cuts permanent, lowering health care and housing costs, and restricting girls' bathrooms to biological females.
His win was a rare bright spot for Wisconsin Republicans. Democrats flipped two GOP-held seats in the state, ousting Rep. Derrick Van Orden in the 3rd District and Rep. Bryan Steil in the 1st.
