Watch: Van Jones Compares GOP Midterm Losses To Jonestown Massacre On Live CNN Broadcast

CNN commentator Van Jones celebrated Democrats' midterm wins by comparing Republican losses to the 1978 Jonestown mass murder-suicide, according to Fox News.

"I'm happy, happy, happy," Jones said on CNN's election night coverage. "This is like Christmas and a birthday and the Easter bunny and Halloween."

He called the results "the repudiation of Trumpism that people have been hoping for." He then invoked the Peoples Temple commune in Guyana, where more than 900 people died after cult leader Jim Jones directed followers to drink cyanide-laced drinks.

"This is Jonestown for the Republican Party," Jones said. "They drank the Kool-Aid, and they have candidates that are dropping like flies across the country because they did not stand up to this guy when he was doing things that were wrong."

"It's Jonestown tonight," Jones added. "You join a cult, at some point, you go to Jonestown."

Anchor Anderson Cooper then joked to Republican strategist Scott Jennings, seated next to Jones, "Scott, I don't know if you want to check what's in your glass." Jennings shot back, "Do you realize I'm sitting right here? I can hear everything you're saying."

Jennings still acknowledged that Republicans were having a rough night. "I'm not going to sugarcoat it," he said, describing the results as "a country a-- whooping."

He pointed to economics rather than ideology as the driving force. "The most immediate issue is cost of living and gas prices," Jennings said, adding that "the American people have here and now concerns."
