Halloween Horror In Fairfield: Gunman Opens Fire In Packed Spirit Store, Leaving 1 Dead And 6 Wounded

A routine evening of last-minute Halloween shopping turned into a scene of terror at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, when gunfire erupted inside a crowded mall, leaving one person dead and six others wounded.

The shooting broke out around 8:30 p.m. at the pop-up seasonal shop in the Solano Town Mall, shattering any sense of safety for families and workers simply trying to prepare for a holiday tradition. According to the New York Post, the store was packed when the attack began, underscoring once again how law-abiding citizens in everyday settings are increasingly vulnerable to sudden acts of violence.

David Bernal said his wife was inside the store when the shots rang out, describing how she is still struggling to process what happened. Shes at home right now, still in shock, Bernal told KCRA, adding she heard five big bangs, big ones, like loud.

As panic spread, shoppers scrambled for safety amid chaos and confusion, with many unsure where the shots were coming from or whether the threat had ended. The people were running, yelling, and crying, he added, recalling the frantic rush to escape the gunfire that struck seven people, killing one and leaving three in critical condition, according to authorities.

Bernal said his wife managed to flee the store and navigate through the mall as others screamed and ducked for cover. She ultimately escaped out from one of the exits on the other side of the mall, he told the outlet, a narrow flight that highlights how individual vigilance and quick thinking can mean the difference between life and death.

Fairfield resident Michelle Marie Anderson, who was dropping off her niece at the mall, recounted hearing the desperate pleas of a young victim. Fairfields sense of community was shaken as she told ABC 7 News she heard someone who had apparently been shot cry out for help, adding, This is what Fairfield is looking like before Halloween.

A manhunt is now underway for any potential suspects as law enforcement works to restore order and provide answers to a rattled public. The Fairfield Police Department did not confirm whether there were multiple suspects or a lone gunman at a Friday press conference, but said no one has been detained, a sobering reminder of how often criminals remain at large while citizens are left to cope with the aftermath.

This is still a very active crime scene. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and diligently working to identify the suspect responsible for this horrific shooting, said Fairfield Police Department Chief Dan Marshall, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Police have not released any description of possible suspects, but Marshall noted that the mall has cameras so hopefully well get some good information, as authorities review surveillance footage and the identities of the victims remain withheld from the public.
