Pramila Jayapal Says Socialist Countries Trust Government 'So Much More' Then Blamed America For Ruining It

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), a prominent member of the far-left squad, is openly praising democratic socialism and insisting that government should serve as the great equalizer of opportunity.

In an interview on the Its Open with Ilana Glazer podcast, Jayapal argued that there is so much more trust in government in democratic socialist nations, casting suspicion of government as a tool of the right wing and fascists seeking to control this country, according to Breitbart. She framed skepticism toward expansive government not as a legitimate concern about liberty or accountability, but as a tactic of the billionaires and their alleged allies on the right.

It is really important to the right wing, to the fascists, and all the people who want to control this country, and the billionaires, that people dont trust government. Because, back to the idea of socialism, the idea for people who are democratic socialists, who believe in socialism, the concept is that government is the great equalizer of opportunity. Thats how I think about it. Its the biggest entity out there that can make sure that you have basic needs provided for, Jayapal said. She portrayed a powerful central state not as a threat to individual freedom, but as the primary vehicle for distributing basic needs, a vision that stands in sharp contrast to Americas constitutional tradition of limited government and personal responsibility.

And that idea is very dangerous to people who want just a few very wealthy people to control everything, right? And so, the more they can undermine our faith in government, the more they can say government is corrupt, government is this, government is that, its inefficient, its et cetera, et cetera the more effective they can be in having people not trust government, she continued. Conservatives, by contrast, have long warned that concentrating power in Washington invites the very corruption, inefficiency, and abuse of authority that Jayapal dismisses as mere rhetoric.

She went on to say that in countries around the world and Europe and other places, people trust government. Thats been eroded over time, but those are socialist countries. They are democratic socialist countries. And in many of those places, theres so much more trust in government because government has provided a lot of the fundamentals for a long time, she said.

Thats being eroded in part because of the role of the United States, frankly, she continued. Her remarks underscore the growing divide between left-wing Democrats who openly champion European-style socialism and Americans who still believe that faith should rest not in bureaucrats and centralized power, but in families, communities, markets, and the constitutional limits that protect citizens from government overreach.
