The Democratic Partys campaign to vilify Immigration and Customs Enforcement has reached a new low, relying on selective video clips and emotional rhetoric to smear law enforcement while presuming the public will not bother to ask basic questions.
Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington posted a video on X showing a man in Long Beach, California, being arrested by ICE officers, claiming he was assaulted and injured. According to Western Journal, she framed the incident as an example of federal agents brutalizing an innocent victim, hoping viewers would accept her narrative at face value.
The man in the video was later identified by KABC-TV as Ricardo Gonzalez, with the incident reportedly taking place on Saturday. A Homeland Security spokesperson stated that Gonzalez was taken into custody after he allegedly damaged a government vehicle, including smashing a mirror.
In Jayapals edited footage, Gonzalez appears to be swarmed and beaten by officers, a portrayal clearly designed to inflame public outrage. She also shared local news coverage featuring surveillance video of Gonzalez passing the vehicle that DHS says he struck, along with interviews of residents expressing confusion about why the arrest occurred.
For Democrats eager to attack President Donald Trumps enforcement priorities and undermine ICE, this looked like a political gift. The implication was obvious: federal officers had supposedly gone rogue, and the left could once again paint immigration enforcement as inherently abusive.
That narrative collapsed when additional context emerged. Unfortunately for Jayapal, that was not the whole story, as ICE later released more footage showing Gonzalez tackling an officer, a crucial detail her video conspicuously omitted.
The agencys response exposed the manipulation at work. ICE replied to the representative with a post explaining the situation, stating, On October 17, 2026, ICE conducted a targeted enforcement operation in Long Beach, California to arrest an at-large criminal illegal alien. During the operation, anti-ICE agitators attempted to impede operations, threaten officers, and damage government vehicles despite officers giving lawful commands. Officers followed their training and used the minimum amount of force, the agency wrote.
ICE further clarified what actually occurred during the confrontation. ICE did NOT hit an individual on a bike. An individual was arrested after he smashed the mirror of a government vehicle. Resisting arrest is dangerous and can result in injury. The rioter was transferred to the custody of local police, and we are investigating potential charges for the damage to a government vehicle.
This episode underscores how little respect Democratic leaders have for the publics intelligence. The Democratic Party believes we are all drooling imbeciles who cannot ask the most basic questions, and they expect everyone to adopt and champion their ridiculous narratives as they wish.
Citizens do not even need to see every frame of video to know something is missing when only one side of a confrontation is shown. You only need to ask what happened before Jayapals footage and withhold judgment until that question is answered, a standard any honest lawmaker should welcome rather than fear.
The remaining question is whether Jayapal will correct the record now that the fuller video is available. Is Jayapal going to issue a correction, and will she acknowledge that her presentation of the incident misled the public, or will she simply move on and hope voters forget?
Her conduct fits a broader pattern in which the left demonizes law enforcement, especially agencies tasked with securing the border and enforcing immigration law, in order to score ideological points. It certainly seems an apology is in order, along with a retraction, but given the Democrats track record on these issues, conservatives should not hold their breath.
