Federal prosecutors in Washington, DC, are now formally referring to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) by a different name in court records, intensifying long-standing questions about her identity, immigration history, and alleged marriage fraud.
According to Breitbart, the United States Attorneys Office for the District of Columbia identified the Somalia-born lawmaker as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi in a recent filing tied to a federal search warrant executed at her Washington residence. Before the Court are three Applications to unseal ex parte materials and proceedings related to a federal search warrant for the personal residence in the District of Columbia of Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, the filing, signed by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, reads.
That explicit use of the Nur Said Elmi name revives nearly decade-old allegations that Omars ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, is in fact her brother, a claim that has long circulated in conservative circles but has never been definitively adjudicated. Those allegations, none of which have been proven, maintain that Omar entered into a sham marriage with Said Elmi to facilitate his immigration status in the United States, raising serious questions about potential abuse of the legal immigration system.
Pressed on the matter during an appearance on MS NOW with Chris Hayes, Omar was asked directly whether she was related to her ex-husband. Omar responded, Not to my knowledge, an answer that has since gone viral online and done little to quiet public skepticism.
Federal agents reportedly seized 17 items and collected DNA during last weeks raid on Omars Washington, DC, home, evidence they reportedly hope will determine whether she engaged in immigration fraud. In addition to the immigration inquiry, Pirros office is also examining Omars finances, after the administration initiated a review following reports that she had amassed a multimillion-dollar net worth, a striking development for a sitting member of Congress who has styled herself as a champion of the underprivileged.
