A polling firm widely cited by major media outlets has confessed to fabricating its surveys, underscoring growing concerns about the integrity of political polling in America.
According to Mediaite, Wedgewood Polls admitted in an X post on Tuesday night that it had invented its data after the polling analysis site FiftyPlusOne pressed the outfit on its credentials and methodology. The company bluntly acknowledged that falsifying results was far too easy, and declared that the polling industry needs major reform in a lengthy statement posted online.
Mediaite has since appended an editors note to an article that once highlighted Wedgewoods work, stating: This page previously included surveys from Wedgewood Polls. On Oct. 20, after being questioned by the polling site FiftyPlusOne, Wedgewood released a statement admitting it had fabricated data for its polls. All of Wedgewoods polls have been removed from our poll tracking project. Earlier this month, MS NOW had promoted a Wedgewood survey claiming Democrat Jocelyn Benson held a 10-point advantage over Trump-backed Republican John James in the Michigan gubernatorial race, a narrative that conveniently favored the left.
In addition to MS NOW, numerous outlets and poll aggregators relied on Wedgewoods numbers, including Newsweek, Decision Desk HQ, and Mediaite, raising serious questions about media due diligence and ideological bias. Wedgewood is now the second polling firm in recent months to concede its findings were fabricated, following Median Polling Strategies, which in August reported that democratic socialist Francesca Hong enjoyed a commanding lead over incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayors race.
After Hong was decisively defeated at the ballot box, Median abruptly shut down when confronted about its data, further eroding public trust in supposedly scientific polling. For conservatives who have long warned that partisan pollsters and credulous media can distort electoral realities, these revelations reinforce the need for transparency, independent verification, and a healthy skepticism toward polls that just happen to align neatly with progressive narratives.
