The NFL Championship game on Sunday between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles generated plenty of action on the field and in the stands where Jill Biden sat with the commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell.
According to the Daily Mail, journalist and podcaster Megyn Kelly had a lot to say about the first lady on Twitter after an NFL announcer referred to Mrs. Biden as doctor.
Kelly shared her strong opinion about using the academic title by saying the Presidents teacher wife should be too embarrassed to use the title. Kelly took to Twitter, where she tweeted, I wonder if she realizes how it might appear to others. One should either have a real MD or work on their self-esteem.
The first lady holds a Doctoral Degree in Education. She is a teacher who has taught for decades to high school, community college, and university students.
In just a few hours, Kellys tweet received 4.3 million views but only 30,000 likes. Some of the responders agreed with Kelly that Mrs. Biden was self-aggrandizing. The majority felt her comment was mean-spirited and told her so.
One Twitter user wrote, PhDs existed before MDs. You sound jealous and petty. Another wrote, Do you realize that getting a Ph.D. doesnt mean youre a medical doctor? Are you that ignorant, or are you just treating your audience as if they are?
The debate about Mrs. Biden using her doctorate title began in 2020 when columnist Joseph Epstein criticized her for using Dr. in his op-ed titled Is There a Doctor in the White House? Not if you need an MD.
Epstein said she should think about it and forthwith drop the doc and that using the honorific title felt fraudulent and comic since Mrs. Biden is not a physician.
Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson said Biden was a doctor of education, which means basically nothing. He added, Jill Biden is not a doctor, no. Maybe in the same sense as Dr. Pepper is. In 2007, at the age of 55, she got a doctorate in education, so shes got the same degree as Dr. Bill Cosby.
Carlson also pointed out that Mrs. Biden suffered from status anxiety and that she decided to cure that, as so many do in our country, with another pointless title.
