Donald Trump is escalating his criticism of Rep.
Henry Cuellar of Texas, branding the Democrat disloyal and ungrateful while urging South Texas voters to back Republican challenger Tano Tijerina in November.
According to Gateway Pundit, Trump last year granted clemency to Cuellar and his wife after they were indicted on federal bribery and money laundering charges in 2024, a case many conservatives viewed as political retribution. The indictment followed Cuellars sharp public criticism of the Biden administrations border policies, which have allowed millions of illegal aliens to stream across the southern border with little resistance or accountability.
Trump had previously announced the pardon for Cuellar and his wife, praising the congressman for breaking with his party over border security and denouncing the Biden White House for weaponizing federal law enforcement. Yet only days after receiving Trumps intervention, Cuellar declared he would seek reelection as a Democrat, a move that stunned many on the right who had expected him to switch parties. Trump blasted the decision at the time as Such a lack of LOYALTY and threw his support behind Tano Tijerina, a former Minor League Baseball player and Republican who is now challenging Cuellar for his seat.
Ahead of his rally in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday night, Trump renewed his call for voters to reject Cuellar and rally behind Tijerina as the true conservative alternative. He also sharpened his personal attacks on Cuellar, condemning him as disloyal and ungrateful for accepting a pardon from a Republican president and then returning to the embrace of the Democratic Party.
Tano, a legendary Baseball Star, Great Athlete, respected County Judge, and fine person, will hopefully beat Cuellar so that people can show how bad it is when you are recognized and humiliated as being one of the most disloyal political people on Earth! Trump said, casting the race as a referendum on character and loyalty. The presidents full written statement, released ahead of the rally, underscored his sense of personal betrayal and his determination to see Cuellar defeated.
To the people of Texas, I am headed your way, and one of the people that I am going to pay respect to today is Tano Tijerina, Trump began, emphasizing his personal investment in the contest. Out of love and passion, he is running against a Dumocrat, Henry Cuellar, who, along with his wife, I pardoned, at the request of his daughters, because they said, Please dont let them take our parents away!
Trump argued that without his intervention, Cuellar and his wife would likely have faced decades behind bars on serious federal charges. They would have gone to jail on federal fraud and conspiracy charges, for over 20 years and, in fact, Henry Cuellars brother, a Sheriff, a short time later, was indicted on the same charges, he said, suggesting a broader pattern of alleged corruption around the congressman.
In any event, I did the pardons, and made no deal, where a crooked politician would have, but I thought there would be a good chance that Cuellar, who was persecuted by Democrats because they didnt like him, would have routinely gone over to the Republican Party The people that saved him from years in prison, Trump continued, stressing that he had expected gratitude, not political opportunism. Instead, he said, Cuellar chose to remain aligned with the same Democratic establishment that had targeted him.
Shockingly, Cuellar announced, only a few days later, that he is going to remain a Dumocrat, Trump wrote, describing the move as a profound breach of trust. Many considered this to be a tremendous act of disloyalty, and certainly, showed him to be an extremely ungrateful person.
His wife, as I heard, wanted him to turn to the man and the Party that helped him, but he wouldnt do it so, because theyre vicious, the Dumocrats will have a chance to go after him again, Trump added, warning that Democrats could once more use the justice system against Cuellar if he steps out of line. From Trumps perspective, Cuellar chose partisan loyalty to a radicalized Democratic Party over loyalty to the man who kept him out of prison.
In any event, the man running against him, Tano Tijerina, is a STAR and, hopefully, will WIN! Trump declared, framing Tijerinas candidacy as a form of moral and political reckoning. We call that payback for a disloyal and ungrateful person, a person whose life has been saved only to go back into the clutches of the people that tried so hard to destroy him.
Henry Cuellar is a LOSER who, right now, should be serving a longterm jail sentence with his wife in a top level penitentiary, Trump said, arguing that leniency had been wasted on a man who refused to break with a party that has embraced open borders and lawfare. I only wish Henry Cuellars daughters, who begged for his survival, would have used the same level of charm to convince their mother and father to do the right thing, Trump added, underscoring his belief that Cuellar squandered a second chance. I am very proud of the fact that I didnt make a deal with Cuellar, which I easily could have, but relied on his character, which turned out to be a faulty one.
Tano Tijerina, on the other hand, loves Loredo, and all of South Texas but, most importantly, he truly loves the United States of America, Trump said, contrasting the Republican challengers patriotism and local roots with what he portrays as Cuellars political cowardice.
