Secretary of War Pete Hegseth delivered a blistering message at Marine Corps Base Quantico on Wednesday, vowing to rip woke ideology out of the U.S. military and restore a singular focus on warfighting and lethality.
Speaking before troops, senior officers, and a national television audience, Hegseth made clear that the days of social engineering in the ranks are over, according to RedState.
He declared, We are no longer the woke department or the weak department, a direct rebuke to the diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda that flourished under previous Democratic administrations and their Pentagon appointees.
Hegseths remarks came exactly one year after his prior State of Force address, in which he excoriated admirals and generals for turning the armed forces into what he described as a clown show obsessed with gender and race rather than combat readiness.
This time, he went even further, offering what he called a plainspoken translation of his new standards: No fatties. No trannies, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals. Just warriors.
The secretarys blunt language, captured in viral clips circulating online, left no doubt about his intent to purge identity politics from the chain of command.
In one widely shared video, Hegseth is heard declaring, We are NO LONGER the woke department or the weak department, followed by the emphatic line, NO FATTIES. NO TRANNlES, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals. Just WARRIORS.
He then laid out what that means in practice, promising an end to the bureaucratic and ideological distractions that have consumed time and resources in recent years.
No more silly PowerPoint trainings or drag queen shows. No more diversity quotas. No more gender pronouns. No more identity months. ONLY the warrior ethos, he said, drawing a sharp contrast with the Pentagons recent fixation on DEI programming.
Hegseth also used the Quantico event to unveil a major new initiative, the Meridian Project, a 120-day effort aimed at retooling the defense establishment for high-intensity conflict.
The project will be led by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and defense tech billionaire Palmer Luckey, signaling a turn toward private-sector innovation and away from entrenched Pentagon bureaucracy.
In another move certain to unsettle the military establishment, Hegseth announced he is cutting the number of generals and admirals by 20 percent.
The reduction targets what many conservatives have long criticized as a bloated upper brass more focused on politics and public relations than on winning wars.
Despite relentless criticism from the Left over his efforts to dismantle woke policies, Hegseth insisted he will not retreat from his agenda.
In his speech, he defended his policies and claimed that retention and recruitment, including among women and minorities, has risen, and he described the reshaped force as color-blind and merit-based.
He also took direct aim at the media for its coverage of troop morale and munitions stockpiles in the ongoing war with Iran, accusing journalists of undermining the mission.
A free press is, of course, important, but partisan activism that intentionally smears the troops and the historic mission that they're undertaking is fundamentally anti-American. It's sick. It's a national betrayal. It's treason, actually, he said.
Reaction to Hegseths remarks broke sharply along partisan lines, with progressive outlets and activists denouncing him while conservatives largely applauded.
The Daily Beast derided the address as an unhinged rant, while one viral post fumed, ??WTF: Hegseth: We are no longer the woke department no fatties no trannies no beardos no weirdos no wimps no radicals. Just warriors. What a disgusting human being.
Yet many on the Right saw the speech as a long-overdue course correction after years of social experimentation inside the ranks.
Conservative Gen Z influencer Bo Loudon, a friend of Barron Trump, praised the secretary, writing, ??Sec. Hegseth just MADE AMERICA PROUD by declaring fatties and trannies are BANNED from being in the military. We are no longer the woke department or the weak department. This is 100% what I voted for.
For critics, Hegseths rhetoric is offensive and exclusionary; for supporters, it is a necessary shock to a system that has drifted from its core mission.
At stake is whether the War Department exists to advance social justice experiments or to defend the United States and neutralize our enemies, and Hegseths answer is unmistakable: woke ideology, DEI mandates, and radical gender theories do not help our soldiers fight more effectively in Iran or anyplace else.
