Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has quietly tapped a Republican-aligned digital firm to cultivate a new base of conservative donors, offering right-leaning groups a hefty cut of the money raised through his own fundraising appeals.
According to Mediaite, internal messages show Blitz Digital Group pitching Fetterman-themed fundraising copy to conservative political organizations, with the Democrats name and rhetoric being used to solicit contributions from right-of-center voters. I thought you would be interested in this high performing Fetterman copy, Blitz account associate Leah Mergener wrote in one message obtained by the outlet. It has been doing crazy numbers for us.
The fundraising email, signed by Fetterman, was reportedly crafted to resonate with voters sympathetic to President Donald Trump and carried the subject line: Im always going to reject Socialism and the anti-American way of life. Mediaite further noted that donations flowed through a payment-processing firm, Anedot, that is used by Republicans, underscoring how deeply the Democrats operation has dipped into conservative infrastructure.
Blitz allegedly enticed conservative groups with what it called a 75% split, which one Republican consultant told the outlet referred to a commission on a donors first contribution, while Fettermans campaign would retain the donors contact information for future appeals. Neither Blitz nor Fettermans team responded to Mediaites requests for comment, leaving unanswered why a sitting Democratic senator is outsourcing list-building to a GOP-aligned vendor.
The Atlantic identified Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) as one MAGA-aligned lawmaker who circulated Fettermans appeal while using it to stoke speculation about a party switch. I just got an email from John. Hes basically a Republican now, Lee wrote in a solicitation obtained by The Atlantic. I need your help to draft him.
This unconventional fundraising strategy comes after months of scrutiny over Fettermans increasingly visible proximity to Republicans and his rhetorical break with the progressive left. Mediaite reported that his relationship with Democratic digital firm MissionWired ended in June, after which he formed a joint fundraising committee with Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) and, in September, delivered a recorded address at Trumps midterm convention in Dallas focused on rejecting socialism.
Fetterman has repeatedly denied any intention to formally join the GOP, even as his clashes with the partys progressive wing over Israel and the Iran war grow sharper. For conservatives, his latest moves raise the prospect that a prominent Democrat now finds more fertile political and financial ground courting voters who reject socialism and the anti-American way of life than appeasing the activist left that once championed him.
