Following the victory, American Captain Brandt Snedeker made a point of crediting the 45th President for the teams energy and focus in his post-match remarks to reporters. He told me, I was going to bring some energy for you guys. You guys need it. And I told him if we did this, he gets all the credit, Snedeker said. So, thank you, President Trump.
Pressed on where this Presidents Cup ranks among his career highlights during the trophy ceremony, Snedeker emphasized the significance of sharing the moment with the President. He called the day really special because I got to meet President Trump today on the first tee, a line that drew an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd.
Snedeker went further, explicitly tying the teams performance to Trumps presence and encouragement. I think, as he told me this morning, he brought some juice for us today, and I told him if this turned out our way, I was going to give him the credit because he definitely brought the juice, he said. So, he deserves a lot of the credit for whats happening today, he added, before shaking Trumps hand as the cheers continued.
President Trump then took center stage at the ceremony, formally presenting the trophy to the victorious American team as fans roared their approval. He was later seen moving down the line, shaking hands and personally congratulating each member of the squad.
Earlier in the day, the President had made a dramatic arrival at Medinah, with an Air Force One flyover electrifying the already pro-American crowd. Addressing a sea of USA chanting patriots, he drew even louder applause when the gallery broke into chants of Four more years, which he acknowledged with a raised, clenched fist that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
