The pastor of a Texas church closely tied to Democrat state representative James Talarico has been caught on undercover video boasting that her congregation is not a belief-based church while admitting it has sheltered an illegal alien for nearly a decade.
According to Gateway Pundit, the footage, released Monday by Brandon Waltens of Texas Scorecard, features the Reverend Carol Johnson of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church candidly describing the congregations unconventional theology and its open defiance of U.S. immigration law. In the video, Rev. Johnson concedes that We dont have a lot of people who are religious here. Right. Yeah, its very interesting, before going on to outline the churchs progressive priorities.
Dont laugh at me. Were not a belief-based church, were a values-based church, Johnson says, explaining that, in her view, The beliefs are what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount. Loving each other, taking care of each other. Anti-empire. She then criticizes historic Christianity, claiming, After the church became part of the Holy Roman Empire, suddenly Jesus Sermon on the Mount just went out the window and it became all about beliefs and whether you believe the right thing. Right?
Johnson further notes that we dont spend time on that later stuff. We dont spend time on creeds. Right? and instead highlights the churchs long-standing alignment with left-wing causes. We focus on the Sermon on the Mount. Weve stood up for LGBTQ+ rights forever. Right, right. And racial justice, she adds, before turning to immigration.
And we have immigration stuff and we actually have a person. Theres a gentleman living in our church who is from Venezuela No, Guatemala. And he has lived here for 8 years, Johnson acknowledges, effectively describing a self-declared sanctuary arrangement. When the undercover questioner responds, A Sanctuary Church. Ive been following the Talarico campaign. I understand he goes to this church and speaks about it in interviews, Johnson confirms, Yeah, he grew up in this church.
For conservatives already wary of Talaricos far-left record on issues like transgender ideology for children, the video raises fresh concerns about the ideological and legal environment that helped shape his politics, underscoring how some churches have abandoned traditional doctrine in favor of progressive activism and open defiance of immigration law.
