Socialist House Hopeful Vows To Bring Mexicos Independence Fight To Congress

A self-described socialist candidate seeking to represent New Yorks 7th Congressional District is invoking Mexicos war of independence as a guiding inspiration for the agenda she hopes to bring to Washington.

According to The Post Millennial, Claire Valdez declared that she would carry that fight of Mexicans who fought against Spain into the halls of Congress if she prevails in November. Valdez wrote on Wednesday, 215 years ago, Mexicans fought an empire that demanded our land and our labor. And we won. I'll carry that fight with me to Congress as New York's first Mexican American representative.

Mexico marked the 215th anniversary of its independence from Spain in September 2025, but Valdez herself was born in the United States. She further proclaimed, And I'm strengthened not just by Mexico's history but its present. Last month I met comrades in Morena who are standing up to the empires and corporations that have always taken from us and building a government for the working class. Viva la Independencia, Viva Mxico!

Her remarks sparked swift backlash online from critics who questioned her priorities and allegiance. Commentator and former NYPD officer Zeek Arkham asked pointedly, Are you campaigning for Mexico or America? I mean if youre that proud of Mexico and its fight, I sincerely think you should head back over there and roll up your sleeves.

The account Libs of TikTok responded bluntly, This is the United States of America. F*ck off. DeSantis aide Christina Pushaw added that, This would be a great campaign for Congress in Mexico.

Valdez is part of a broader slate of socialist contenders seeking federal office in this years midterms, aiming to push Congress further left on economics and identity politics. She is vying to replace outgoing Democrat Rep. Nydia Velzquez and has secured backing from socialist New York City lawmaker Zohran Mamdani, while fellow socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier, who unseated incumbent Democrat Congressman Adriano Espaillat, is running in New Yorks 13th District, underscoring how aggressively the far-left is working to reshape the Democratic Party from within.
