A Louisiana home health aide is facing serious felony charges after allegedly pouring bleach into the drinking water of a severely disabled man entrusted to his care and urging him to consume it.
According to The Western Journal, 30-year-old Reginald Andre Wilson was taken into custody in Lake Charles after in-home surveillance cameras captured the disturbing incident from multiple angles. The New York Post reported that the footage, later circulated by Fox News, shows Wilson handling the water bottle moments before the victim drank from it and complained that it tasted like bleach.
Police said Wilson was employed by Heaven on Earth Network, a Lake Charles home health provider that had been assigned to care for the victim in his residence. The Lake Charles Police Department stated in a written release that the patient is both physically and mentally disabled and cannot care for himself, underscoring the gravity of the alleged betrayal of trust.
Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. Monday to a home in the 2400 block of Anita Drive after a concerned relative called authorities to report the suspected poisoning. The relative told police that during a scheduled visit, the caretaker handed the patient a water bottle, after which the client took a drink and immediately said it tasted like bleach.
Family members confronted Wilson inside the home once they realized something was wrong, and police said he admitted pouring bleach into the water. Officers then reviewed surveillance video from multiple cameras inside the residence and booked the digital files into evidence as part of the criminal case.
The family later posted the clip on social media, where it quickly drew outrage from viewers shocked by the apparent abuse of a vulnerable adult. The video showed Wilson walking to a laundry area, adding liquid from a large jug into the bottle outside the patients view, shaking the bottle, and then handing it over, with audio capturing him saying, Here, drink this.
Wilson was charged with aggravated battery, cruelty to persons with infirmities, and mingling harmful substances, all serious offenses under Louisiana law. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center, where a judge set his bond at $70,000, reflecting the severity of the allegations.
Heaven on Earth Network said it removed Wilson from the property even before police completed their report, indicating that the agency acted quickly once the accusation surfaced. The company also transported the patient to an emergency room for an evaluation, a step that suggests concern for potential internal injury or poisoning from the alleged bleach ingestion.
In a statement, the provider said it is cooperating fully with Lake Charles police and state regulators as the investigation proceeds.
