A Muslim political organization that openly declares its mission is building a mass movement of diverse U.S. Muslims and allies ready to fight for a future free from Islamophobia and white supremacy is spearheading a nationwide voter registration push on Friday, September 18.
The initiative is being driven by MPower Change, a Muslim 501(c)(3) nonprofit co-founded by controversial activist Linda Sarsour, whose record includes anti-American and antisemitic rhetoric, according to Breitbart. The group describes itself on its about page as An organization rooted in the Islamic faith, we mobilize online and in person on campaigns for racial, social, and economic justice.
National Muslim Voter Registration Day, created by MPower Change in 2018, is designed to activate and mobilize Muslim American voters in every election cycle. The organization claims that thousands of Muslim voters have already been added to the rolls through this campaign.
Organizers insist the effort is focused on nonpartisan voter education and civic engagement, despite its leaderships clear ideological leanings and activist alliances. Events are slated for more than 15 states, including key battlegrounds such as New York, New Jersey, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, California, Tennessee, Georgia, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
It has been a historic year for our community at the ballot box from helping to elect New York Citys first Muslim mayor to other Muslim candidates poised to make history, Sarsour said in a statement. This didnt happen overnight. We began this work 10 years ago, and now we are building on this momentum across the country, especially in states like Michigan and Florida where the stakes are so high.
Her emphasis on Michigan and Florida underscores the political stakes for Democrats who increasingly rely on identity-based blocs rather than broad-based appeals. In Michigan, Muslim socialist Abdul El-Sayed is the Democrat nominee facing Republican Mike Rogers in a closely watched U.S. Senate race that could help determine control of the chamber.
One media report has described El-Sayed as a protg of Sarsours, tracing their connection back to his unsuccessful 2018 gubernatorial bid. Sarsours influence thus extends beyond activism into the grooming and promotion of hard-left candidates who align with her worldview.
Sarsour has also thrown her support behind Florida Democrat Senate nominee Angie Nixon, amplifying her candidacy on social media. On her Facebook page, Sarsour wrote:

She builds year round She didnt start fighting for Palestinians because she was running for US Senate she was an ally and willful accomplice as she calls it when it was NOT popular. Angie was outspent 16 to 1. She won because of who she is, what she stands for and how hard she works. Its now all hands on deck for Angie Nixon.
Nixon will face Republican incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody in November, setting up a clear contrast between a progressive candidate backed by Sarsours activist network and a conservative officeholder aligned with law-and-order and traditional values. For voters concerned about the growing clout of radical identity politics within the Democrat Party, the MPower Change operation and its targeted efforts in swing states highlight how organized left-wing coalitions are working to reshape the electoral map at the expense of constitutional, limited-government principles championed by conservatives and by President Donald Trumps movement.
