House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) sidestepped a direct question about impeaching President Donald Trump, instead cloaking his answer in vague promises of accountability during an appearance on CNNs State of the Union with Jake Tapper.
According to Gateway Pundit, rather than clearly stating Democrats intentions, Jeffries leaned on process language and political euphemisms that did little to conceal the lefts long-standing obsession with removing President Trump from office. We havent ruled anything in, and we havent ruled anything out in terms of impeachment, he said, offering a non-answer that still signaled impeachment remains firmly on the table.
He elaborated that, As it relates to accountability, what were going to do, led by Jamie Raskin and House Committee Democrats on the Judiciary Committee, as well as House Democrats on the Oversight Committee, led by Robert Garcia both of them are doing a tremendous job weve got to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution, and then let the chips fall where they may.
For many observers, that carefully scripted language reads less like caution and more like preparation for an impeachment drive beginning on day one of Democrat control. Everyone understands their plans to impeach, but they refuse to state it plainly, preferring to hide behind procedural rhetoric while keeping their base energized.
Jeffries comments follow similar evasions from Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who last week also danced around the impeachment question while trying to sound measured. Its not a fetish with us, Raskin insisted, before immediately underscoring how central impeachment remains to the Democrats strategy.
Look, everybody on our side understands that impeachment is a critical tool in the toolbox for constitutional self-defense against a president acting like a king, an imperious, lawless, arrogant king, he said, adding, We will not hesitate to use it if we need to use it.
He then dispensed with any pretense of neutrality, declaring that Trump has undoubtedly committed impeachable offenses, effectively prejudging the outcome before any serious investigation, and reinforcing conservative concerns that Democrats view impeachment less as a constitutional safeguard and more as a partisan weapon.
