Left-wing student activists at Utah Valley University are planning a September 10 demonstration explicitly designed to disrupt and make it as uncomfortable as possible for those attending a memorial for a young father who was assassinated after championing conservative ideas on campus.
According to the Gateway Pundit, the protest is being organized by the campus chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), which is openly targeting a remembrance event for Turning Point USAs Charlie Kirk. The activists are not merely objecting to policy or programming; they are attempting to delegitimize any public honoring of a conservative figure whose work focused on free speech and traditional American values.
Students for a Democratic Society chapter president Collin Grannis, in audio obtained by the Cougar Chronicle, said the fight is to make sure UVU knows that there shouldnt be a memorial on campus. When asked what the group could realistically do, he replied, All that well be able to do is stand outside, but if we can make it as uncomfortable as possible for people to get in.
In a social media post announcing the protest, SDS UVU wrote, On September 10th we will be protesting at the UCCU center where TPUSA is holding an event (organized by the Utah County Commision). The UVU administration has closed campus that day, and has endorsed this event, which is an endorsement of the views of Turning Point and Charlie Kirk. We will not stand for this, and we invite anyone who can attend to join us in solidarity to protest TPUSA, UVU Admin, and the Utah County Commissioners. Deescalation training will be held Tuesday and Wednesday the 8th and 9th. The same coalition has framed the universitys cooperation as a political act, branding Kirks views as racism, homophobia, bigotry and hate rather than engaging his arguments in the marketplace of ideas.
The memorial, titled Freedom Built to Last, Honoring Charlie Kirk, is scheduled for the UCCU Center and will feature Glenn Beck, Christian apologist Frank Turek, and TPUSA field officer Andrew Sypher. The gathering will honor Charlie as a faith-filled husband, father, and defender of free speech with a memorial that serves as a deliberate act of remembrance and a call for students and supporters to continue his lifes work, TPUSA said in a press release about the event.
UVU has canceled classes that day for what it describes as healing, while still allowing the arena to remain open for the memorial. Kirk was shot at a campus event at UVU on September 10, 2025, and the effort to honor his legacy now faces open hostility from left-wing groups who appear more interested in silencing conservative voices than in genuine reconciliation or respect for the dead.
