Partons team has been contacted about the proposal and is reportedly touched by the idea and open to continued discussions. Nashville Mayor Freddie OConnell, a Democrat often at odds with conservative priorities, nonetheless endorsed the change, calling it the citys chance to send a love letter to Dolly.
The push to rename the airport did not begin with her passing but grew out of a grassroots campaign launched months earlier. Tennessee residents Lydia Popovich and Dan Dion started a petition in January 2025 urging that the airport be named for Parton, and support surged after her death on Monday, with more than 150,000 signatures recorded by Friday.
Republican state Rep.
