Milo Yiannopoulos may face a lifetime ban on reentering the United States following his anticipated deportation, based on a recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) notice detailing his arrest and removal proceedings.
According to Breitbart, DHS has emphasized that illegal aliens who voluntarily depart using the CBP Home App may preserve the possibility of returning legally in the future. Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now, DHS said.
The agency further warned, We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return. While DHS did not explicitly state that Yiannopoulos will be permanently barred, the language strongly implies he may have forfeited any future opportunity to reenter.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Yiannopoulos, a British national, at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana on August 27, according to DHS. Records show he entered the United States legally through New York City on May 14, 2019, but remained beyond the authorized period, a violation that conservatives argue underscores the need for strict enforcement of immigration law.
He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nations laws, DHS said. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for an immigration hearing, and DHS stated he will remain in ICE custody until he is removed from the country.
Yiannopoulos, who built a reputation as a provocative conservative commentator and once worked for Breitbart News, left the outlet in February 2017. His case now serves as a pointed reminder that even high-profile figures are not exempt from the consequences of ignoring U.S. immigration rules.
