The tragic death of 20-year-old Katie Abraham at the hands of an illegal immigrant has now propelled her father, Joe Abraham, into a national role in the fight against border-related crime.
According to the Gateway Pundit, Katie was killed when Guatemalan national Julio Cucul-Bol, suspected of drunk driving, slammed into her vehicle at high speed while she was stopped at a red light. Joe Abraham told Fox News, The person that killed Katie, Julio Cucul-Bol, who was using an alias, who couldnt read or write English or Spanish, he was using a Kai Qi language, barreled into them at 80 miles an hour.
Katie died on the scene. He fled the scene. Those stark words capture not only a familys grief, but the broader consequences of a border and immigration system that has, for years, prioritized political correctness and sanctuary policies over public safety.
Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) has highlighted even more disturbing details surrounding the case, tying it directly to the broader crisis created by open-border policies and sanctuary jurisdictions. She warned that Joe Bidens border catastrophe and Illinois sanctuary framework are flooding American communities with violent illegal aliens and bringing full-blown diseases straight into our backyards, killing innocent young women and sticking taxpayers with the bill for their medical care.
According to Rep. Miller, Cucul-Bol allegedly entered the United States while suffering from advanced AIDS. This allegation underscores the public health risks that arise when federal immigration law is undermined and border enforcement is treated as optional rather than essential.
In the wake of his daughters death, Joe Abraham will now lead the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. VOICE, first created in 2017 under President Trumps initial term, was shut down by Joe Biden in 2021 and then re-established and relaunched in 2025 under President Trumps second administration as part of a broader effort to restore law and order at the border.
The offices mission is to assist victims and families harmed by crimes committed by criminal or illegal aliens, giving them a direct line to federal authorities and support services. Homeland Security emphasized the significance of Abrahams appointment, stating, There is no one better to lead ICEs VOICE office than @angeldadjoe. Since his daughter, Katie, was murdered by an illegal alien drunk driver in a hit-and-run in sanctuary Illinois, he has been a staunch advocate for victims of illegal alien crime.
In his new role, he will continue to help families who have lost a loved one to a preventable tragedy caused by open-border policies. Abraham, responding to the announcement on X, wrote, Thank you, ICE, for the warm welcome.
This role is deeply personal. I know what it feels like to be a victims family member searching for answers and someone willing to listen. His words reflect the reality that behind every statistic on illegal immigration is a shattered family, often left to navigate a maze of bureaucracy with little guidance.
Victims and families of immigration-related crime carry a profound, uniquely painful burden on top of unimaginable grief. They deserve a dedicated place to turn; to be heard, supported and treated with dignity. Abraham added that his daughters memory is the driving force behind his new mission, but that the work extends far beyond his own loss.
Katies story brought me to this mission, but VOICE is much bigger than one family. Im honored and humbled to serve victims and families across this country and ensure their voices are heard and their stories never forgotten. As the border debate continues, his new role serves as a reminder that immigration policy is not an abstract ideological contest, but a matter of life and death for American citizens.
Every victim of a crime committed by an illegal immigrant deserves to know that someone is listening. That is the promise of VOICE. Under President Trumps renewed enforcement agenda, that promise is being restored, offering at least some measure of justice and recognition to families who have paid the ultimate price for failed border policies.
