Sammy The Bull Gravano Reveals The Chilling Moment He Turned On John Gotti

Sammy The Bull Gravano says the moment he realized the Mafias sacred oath was a lie came only after he heard his own boss, John Gotti, plotting to sacrifice him to save himself.

According to Fox News, Gravano recounted on the Hang Out With Sean Hannity podcast how years of sworn loyalty to the Gambino crime family collapsed once he understood that the code he had lived and killed for was being used as a weapon against him. He described how, after a pivotal confrontation, I said, Okay. And I walked away, only to make a far more decisive break moments later. Well, as I walked away, I said, F--- the Mafia, f--- the oath and f--- John Gotti I'm switching sides. He wants to play chess with me. Let's play chess.

At the heart of his decision were clandestine recordings of Gotti discussing the assassination of Gambino boss Paul Castellano and other criminal operations, tapes that revealed a boss who could not keep his own counsel. Gravano said Gottis reckless chatter initially struck him as a dangerous breach of discipline, but not yet a betrayal. At first, I was annoyed in a way, like, man, you don't know when to shut your f---ing mouth, he said. But it went beyond that.

The turning point came after both men were arrested and Gotti moved to seize control of the legal strategy, including Gravanos own defense. Gravano said he was stunned when he learned how the lawyers planned to spin the damning tapes before a jury. They're going to turn around, including your lawyer, and say to the jurors, You heard the tapes. Sammy's a monster. Killed all these people, took over the businesses and everything. Poor John Gotti. You hear him complaining on the tape. It's not him. It's him, Gravano recalled.

That approach, he said, exposed the brutal logic of the underworld: the boss must be protected at all costs, even if it means destroying the very soldier who enforced his will. The Mafias vaunted honor code, in Gravanos telling, was nothing more than a shield for the man at the top and a trap for everyone beneath him. After that exchange, Gravano said, he walked away internally and resolved to cooperate with federal authorities, effectively declaring war on the criminal empire he once helped run.

Only later did he discover that Gottis betrayal ran even deeper than legal maneuvering. I find this out way later, so it's not the reason I cooperated but I find out later he's going to take me out, Gravano recalled, describing a murder plot that would have erased him once he had served his purpose. But he wants Frankie [LoCascio] to go around to the captains and explain Sammy has lost his mind. He's really killing all kinds of f---ing people. It's crazy, Gravano added, illustrating how character assassination often precedes the real thing in mob circles.

In his extended conversation with Sean Hannity, Gravano also detailed the grim reality behind the Mafias romanticized image, from taking the blood oath to participating in 19 murders and helping orchestrate the notorious hit on Castellano. His account serves as a stark reminder that when loyalty is demanded without accountability whether in criminal syndicates or in overreaching government it becomes a tool of tyranny, not honor.
