Liberal radio personality Charlamagne tha God stunned many of his own listeners this week by openly questioning Dr.
Anthony Faucis conduct and President Joe Bidens decision to grant the former COVID czar a sweeping pardon.
During an edition of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne reacted to Faucis refusal to answer questions at a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing, where the longtime bureaucrat invoked his Fifth Amendment right more than 100 times as Republicans pressed him on his role in the pandemic and years of shifting narratives, according to Gateway Pundit. The host, who has frequently mocked COVID skeptics, conceded that Faucis behavior and Bidens preemptive pardon looked troubling, even as he continued to deride critics as conspiracy theorists rather than engage with their substantive concerns.
I know these conspiracy theorists happy this morning, Charlamagne said, acknowledging that Faucis stonewalling had vindicated many of the people corporate media spent years ridiculing. Im like, I know they sitting around like I told yall. We tried to tell yall! he added, suggesting that those who questioned the official COVID narrative now have fresh ammunition.
He went further, admitting that from the perspective of those same skeptics, Faucis refusal to cooperate with lawmakers only deepens public distrust. He argued that Faucis behavior appears suspicious to the conspiracy theorists, a notable shift from the dismissive tone that dominated much of the medias pandemic coverage.
The Senate hearing that prompted Charlamagnes comments was remarkable in its own right, as Fauci repeatedly declined to respond even to basic, non-substantive questions. At one point, when Senator Josh Hawley tested the limits of Faucis evasiveness, the former NIAID director refused to answer simple queries such as what day of the week it was, what color his tie was, and what color the carpet was.
Despite years of aggressively promoting lockdowns, mandates, and experimental vaccineswhile smearing dissenters as dangerous or ignorantFauci offered no real defense of his record. This silence came even though Biden had already granted him a broad preemptive pardon, insulating him from potential federal prosecution for actions taken during the pandemic.
Senator Rand Paul, one of Faucis most persistent critics, announced that the committee will vote next week on whether to hold Fauci in contempt for refusing to answer questions. Paul also suggested that Faucis blanket invocation of the Fifth Amendment may itself have been unlawful, given the nature of the questions and his prior public statements.
Charlamagne, who often presents himself as a straight-talker, admitted he could not reconcile Faucis legal shield with the claim that nothing improper occurred. Now listen, Im stupid. Okay, I just want yall to know that. But I will say I never understood why Dr. Fauci needed a pardon if there was no crime committed or nothing was done wrong, he said on his Thursday show.
He then connected that unease to the long list of allegations that had been dismissed out of hand by the political and media establishment. And when you think of every conspiracy theorist that accused him of everything from creating or covering up the virus, you know, the profiting from mandates and vaccines, it does look suspicious that he wont answer questions in the language, he continued, implicitly acknowledging that skeptics may have had more reason than they were ever allowed to express.
Charlamagne also questioned the logic behind Faucis legal strategy, pointing out that innocent people should have nothing to fear from straightforward questioning. How can somebody trap you if youre not doing nothing wrong? Like, well, like, how can you cant trap me if Im not doing anything wrong. What am I going to say? he asked, underscoring the disconnect between Faucis public image and his conduct under oath.
Contributor Mimi Brown quickly intervened to steer the conversation back toward the familiar narrative of Republican overreach. Well, Im not a lawyer, but I will say this: Republicans, and especially led by Senator Rand Paul, they pointed to 1,100 pages that they released from Faucis personal government diary entries and it accuses him of misleading the public during the pandemic, she said, framing the controversy as a partisan effort rather than a legitimate inquiry into government misconduct.
Brown then attempted to recast GOP efforts as little more than political scapegoating in the wake of Bidens pardon. She claimed that Republicans, especially Senator Rand Paul, simply want someone to blame, glossing over the fact that Fauci would not be shielded from perjury if he lied under oathan important detail she omitted while rushing to his defense.
They want someone to blame to make them understand what happened, why we had to separate for six feet, why so many people were fired from work if they didnt get the vaccine, Brown added, reducing widespread public anger over lost jobs, shuttered businesses, and coerced medical decisions to mere confusion. She then tried to redirect outrage toward Senator Bernie Moreno, criticizing him for going off on Fauci and dropping an F-bomb, which Brown insisted was disrespectful.
As Brown and co-host DJ Envy worked to shield Fauci and pivot to attacking Moreno and Republicans, Charlamagne refused to let go of the central issue. But yall dont think its fishy that he got a pardon. Why did he need a pardon? A pardon? he pressed, highlighting the question that many Americans have been asking since Biden quietly extended that extraordinary protection.
From there, the panel reverted to familiar territory, launching into a Trump-bashing segment filled with dubious claims. They asserted that Biden pardoned everyone merely to protect them from supposed Trump targeting, insisted Hunter Biden never committed a crime, and repeated the long-debunked smear that Trump told everybody to drink Clorox, a distortion that has become a staple of left-wing talking points.
Charlamagnes moment of clarity on Fauci stands in contrast to his own recent record of inflammatory rhetoric against conservatives. Only months ago, he labeled Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas a coon simply for holding originalist views and resisting progressive judicial activism, a slur that underscored his hostility toward Black conservatives who reject leftist orthodoxy.
He has also publicly expressed regret over his own decision to take the COVID vaccine, a choice he once promoted in line with the prevailing media narrative. I should have never got that damn COVID shot, he admitted, explaining that he now suffers from chest pains that he did not experience before.
I had no cardiovascular issues until like I got that goddamn COVID shot, Charlamagne said, echoing concerns many Americans have raised about vaccine side effects while the political class and its media allies continue to insist that questioning the shots is beyond the pale. His evolving stance on Fauci, Bidens pardon, and his own health suggests that even some prominent voices on the left are beginning to grapplehowever reluctantlywith the consequences of the COVID regime they once helped to enforce.
