Joy Reid used her MSNBC platform to unleash a racially charged attack on President Donald Trump, accusing him of waging war in Iran to kill young white men while allegedly purging the U.S. military of women, minorities, and LGBT service members.
According to Mediaite, the former MS NOW host claimed that we dont even know how many people have died in Iran, before escalating her rhetoric into a sweeping indictment of the commander in chief. Donald Trump is killing your sons, after stripping the history of anybody Black, anybody thats a woman, or anybody gay from the military, making it clear that he only wants to kill young white men, Reid declared, offering no concrete evidence for her explosive charge.
Reid did not specify which actions she believed supported her narrative, instead leaning on a patchwork of prior controversies to frame the President as racially motivated. She referenced reporting from March alleging that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseths chief of staff told a military leader that Trump doesnt want to stand next to a Black female officer at military events, a claim that critics say reflects more on staff-level gossip than on official policy.
She also invoked the March 2025 Supreme Court decision that allowed the administration to proceed with its ban on transgender individuals serving in the military, a policy rooted in longstanding debates over readiness, medical costs, and unit cohesion. For many conservatives, that ruling affirmed the executive branchs authority to set military standards, yet Reid folded it into a broader narrative of discrimination and erasure.
On the question of casualties in Iran, Reid asserted that the death toll remains unknown, using that uncertainty to bolster her claim that the administration is hiding the human cost of war. She cited a report from last Thursday stating that the administration removed four American service members from the Pentagons public casualty count after determining they died after the Presidents April ceasefire declaration, a bureaucratic decision she cast as deliberate deception.
Reid then escalated her rhetoric further, directly warning potential recruits and their families about serving under President Trump. And every single young white man that signs up for the military because thats the only people they want that man is going to send you to Iran. This is going to escalate. There will be probably a ground invasion, and its your sons hes trying to suck in. Hes gonna kill your sons and then not tell you how they died, she said, before adding, Donald Trump is presiding over what feels like a return of lynching, or at least lynching culture, or at least the lynching vibe all across the South.
Her remarks reflect a broader trend on the left of framing policy disputes in apocalyptic racial terms, even when directed at an all-volunteer military whose members freely choose to serve. While critics see Reids commentary as incendiary and irresponsible, her allies continue to amplify such claims online, and viewers are invited to Watch the full clip above via YouTube to judge her words for themselves.
