Republican senators subjected Dr. Anthony Fauci to intense scrutiny this week, prompting a familiar wave of reflexive defense from the lefts media allies.
According to TV Insider, MSNBC host Lawrence ODonnell used his program The Last Word to offer a full-throated defense of the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director after his latest appearance before the Senate. Fauci, facing pointed questions from Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky about his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, chose to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights, a move ODonnell enthusiastically endorsed on his July 29 broadcast.
Republican senators disgraced themselves today, attacking the man who saved lives, possibly millions of lives, during the COVID-19 outbreak, ODonnell declared, casting Fauci as a heroic figure beyond reproach. He added, The man who helped speed the development of a vaccine because of the research that he had led and supported on exactly that kind of virus for years before the outbreak of the pandemic, of the anticipation of exactly the kind of pandemic that hit the world in 2020.
ODonnell went further, accusing GOP lawmakers of hypocrisy for criticizing Fauci while benefiting from the very vaccines they now question. Thats why the vaccine that has saved so many of our lives reached us so quickly and not one senator in that room today did one thing to save a single life during the COVID-19 pandemic, he insisted, before charging, But they lined up to get their COVID-19 shots as soon as they could and they neer thanked Dr. Fauci for helping to speed the development of that vaccine.
In a particularly sweeping claim, ODonnell asserted, He has done more in service to this country then every senator in that room and the entire current United States Senate combined. Such rhetoric, delivered in lockstep opposition to Republican oversight efforts and to critics aligned with President Donald Trump, underscores how deeply segments of the liberal media remain invested in elevating Fauci while dismissing legitimate questions about pandemic policy, personal freedom, and government accountability.
