Vance also expressed gratitude to the White House medical team and to the doctors and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, highlighting the professionalism of those who care for Americas leaders.
As noted by the Associated Press, Vance is the first vice president since the 1800s to have a child while serving as the nations second-highest official. Schuyler Colfax and his second wife, Ellen Wade, had a son, Schuyler Colfax III, in 1870 when Colfax was serving as vice president, according to the White House Historical Association, it noted.
Decades before that, John C. Calhoun and his wife, Floride Bonneau, had a son, William, in 1829 when Calhoun was vice president, the association said. Colfax served under President Ulysses S. Grant between 1869 and 1873, linking Vances milestone to a distant era of American politics.
Several members of the Trump administration have also welcomed children during President Donald Trumps second term, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. For many conservatives, these growing families at the center of political power serve as a reminder that public service and strong family life can and should go hand in hand.
