President Donald Trump dismissed the need for a federal probe into Sen.
Lindsey Grahams sudden death, arguing the FBI is wasting their time and lamenting that the South Carolina Republican had not taken better care of his health.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday alongside Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, President Trump was pressed on why FBI agents had been spotted at Grahams residence following the senators death on Saturday. According to The Gateway Pundit, the President used the moment to question the necessity of federal involvement while emphasizing what he described as a largely undetectable medical condition that mirrored the ailment that killed Grahams father.
Trump told reporters he did not understand why the FBI had taken such an active role, stressing that Graham suffered from a genetic health problem that had long been known to those close to him. I wish he took better care of himself. I say, you can solve that problem, Trump said.
The President underscored the hereditary nature of the condition, drawing a direct line to Grahams family history. His father had a very similar problem, as you know. Its very unique, he added, suggesting that while lifestyle choices matter, some medical outcomes are tragically difficult to avoid.
Trump elaborated on early reports about the cause of death, noting that initial speculation focused on cardiovascular issues. At first, I heard it was clogged arteries. Because he did have clogged arteries. He had a problem with that. I wish he took better care of himself. I say, you can solve that problem, Trump continued, before explaining that doctors later briefed him on a different, more elusive condition.
He described the underlying issue as one that even modern medicine struggles to catch in time. But what happened is actually something thats very hard to detect. It was not related to any blockage. It was a totally different thing. And supposedly, and I watched all the medical reports, Ive had the doctors from the White House come in and explain what happened. This is something that is almost undetectable, and if it happens theres not much you can do about it.
The President characterized the episode as a medical tragedy rather than anything sinister. Sounds unfortunate, but theres not much you can do about it, he said, pointing again to Grahams father: If you look at his father, died of the same thing at about the same age. So, they say its almost undetectable.
Trump went on to relay what he had been told about warning signs, highlighting one symptom in particular. You can detect it by if you have a very bad back thats a sign. Thats a bad sign. So, if anybody has a bad back, its a pretty rough thing to think about, but thats one of the primary signs. And he would tell me he had a bad back, and little did anyone realize it was [inaudible]. And when that bursts, which it did, it burst, theres not much. I dont see a lot of evil there.
Addressing speculation that Grahams death might have involved foul play, Trump directly challenged the narrative pushed by online conspiracy theorists. I know theres all sorts of conspiracy theories going along, and I dont think the FBI I think the FBI is wasting their time if theyre doing that, Trump said, signaling his belief that federal law enforcement should focus on genuine threats rather than politically charged rumor.
FBI Director Kash Patel has stated that the bureau is supporting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available, a level of engagement that many conservatives view with skepticism given the FBIs recent track record of politicized investigations. As reported, agents were seen at Grahams Washington, D.C., home after his passing, even as the senators office described his death as the result of a brief and sudden illness, with paramedics initially responding to what was reported as a cardiac arrest call at his residence.
