The Trump administration is moving to dramatically accelerate deportations by assembling a dedicated fleet of government-operated aircraft to remove illegal immigrants from the United States.
According to Western Journal, the Department of Homeland Security has issued a request to aviation firms outlining how they would manage deportation flights and handle emergency missions, a clear signal that the administration intends to reduce reliance on ad hoc charter arrangements. The proposed fleet would consist of two C-37B or Gulfstream 650ER jets and seven Boeing 737-700s or comparable aircraft, operating around the clock on both domestic and international routes.
Private contractors would be tasked with supplying pilots, flight attendants, and support personnel, including nurses and security staff, ensuring that the government can scale up operations without expanding the federal workforce. These aircraft would be used not only for deportation and voluntary repatriation flights, but also for transporting crisis response teams and medical evacuation staff when needed.
The initiative to create a standing deportation air fleet began under former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, reflecting a longer-term conservative push for stronger border enforcement and more efficient removal procedures. Most current Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation flights rely on chartered planes owned by private companies, a model that federal officials have long argued is costly and inefficient over time.
Department officials have previously indicated that government-owned aircraft would be more economical in the long run, giving ICE greater control over scheduling and capacity. ICE was reportedly seeking to purchase about 10 commercial aircraft this spring as part of its shift away from charter services and toward operating its own flights, according to SimpleFlying.
Meanwhile, enforcement activity is quietly intensifying even as media coverage of large-scale immigration raids has waned. A recent report from WABC-TV noted that although high-profile immigration sweeps are no longer a major part of ICEs agenda, immigration detentions are rising, with 10,000 people detained in five days at the end of June.
DHS underscored that the administrations focus remains on protecting American communities from dangerous offenders who entered the country unlawfully. Since Day One, DHS law enforcement has been delivering on President Trumps promise to the American people to arrest and deport criminal illegal aliens including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists, the department said, adding, Our message is clear: if you come to our country illegally, we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will deport you.
