TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw, serving on President Donald Trumps White House Religious Liberty Commission, has issued a stark warning about mounting attacks on Christians who simply seek to live out their faith in everyday life.
The commission, which recently released a draft report outlining current threats to religious liberty and offering policy recommendations for the Trump administration, has drawn attention to what it views as a systematic effort to marginalize people of faith, according to Western Journal. During remarks in the Oval Office, Dr. Phil emphasized that the problem is not theoretical or confined to church walls, but is instead hitting ordinary Americans where they work and serve.
What stuck out for me is how many Americans showed up saying that they were persecuted in health care, military, education different walks of life for living their faith and standing up for their faith, Dr. Phil said, per a report from NewsNation. Its not just the liberty to choose which house of worship they want, its actually getting into their daily life, and theyre being persecuted in their jobs.
Dr. Phil, a Christian who has become increasingly vocal about his beliefs, framed these testimonies as evidence that religious liberty is under direct assault in key American institutions. His comments reflect a broader conservative concern that secular and progressive forces are using government, corporate policy, and cultural pressure to push Christians out of the public square.
Texas Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who chairs the White House Religious Liberty Commission, directly challenged one of the lefts favorite legal slogans: separation of church and state. He argued that activists and bureaucrats have twisted that phrase into a weapon to drive Christian expression from public life, rather than a safeguard for genuine freedom of conscience.
Again, the separation of church and state is not in the Constitution, Patrick remarked. And from this day forward, that phrase should have no power over people of all faiths ever again in America.
Reflecting that view, the commission urged the Justice Department to issue guidance clarifying the proper understanding of the Establishment Clause and separation of church and state. Such guidance would aim to restrain officials who misinterpret the Constitution to silence prayer, religious speech, or faith-based symbols in public settings.
The panel also recommended that any public official who believes someone under their supervision has improperly engaged in religious expression must provide a written explanation detailing how the conduct violated the Constitution or a specific law. This requirement would force bureaucrats to justify attempts to restrict religious expression, rather than allowing vague complaints or ideological bias to carry the day.
Additional proposals included distributing Know Your Rights posters on religious freedom in workplaces and confirming more judges who are willing to seriously consider religious liberty claims. The commission further called for the creation of a Presidential Medal of Religious Liberty and First Freedom Hero Awards to honor citizens who courageously defend faith in the public arena.
The envisioned awards would recognize Americans who stand up for religious freedom and play an indispensable role in protecting citizens Constitutional rights. Taken together, the commissions work underscores a central conviction of President Trumps second administration: that religious liberty is not a fringe concern, but a foundational right that must be actively defended against ideological overreach and government intrusion.
