The American left is once again revealing its contempt for basic decency, this time by attacking a Democrat who dared to condemn the political assassination of a conservative leader.
According to RedState, the backlash centers on a congressional resolution honoring Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down in September 2025 during an event at Utah Valley University. Kirk, just 31, was assassinated while speaking to young conservatives, and his killing was immediately met with open celebration from some radical progressives, including educators, medical professionals, and elected officials, who openly and unapologetically express[ed] glee over the conservative icon's murder, with some even suggesting that Kirk's killing shouldn't be the last.
Nearly a year later, the preliminary hearing for accused assassin Tyler Robinson is underway in a Provo, Utah courtroom, drawing Kirks widow, Erika, and other family members, who are confronting the alleged killer in an incredible show of strength and resilience. With the judge now forced to review gruesome footage, one might expect even hardened partisans to show a measure of grace toward a grieving family and a fallen husband and father.
Instead, Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed chose this moment to attack his primary opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11), for the simple act of supporting a resolution that honored Kirks legacy and condemned his assassination. His campaign posted a sneering message on X, not Haley Stevens carrying the flame, alongside the report of her vote, treating a basic stand against political violence as something shameful.
The reaction was swift and scathing, as users highlighted El-Sayeds own record of sympathy for Americas enemies and extremists. One critic noted, Abdul El-Sayed's campaign is condemning Haley Stevens for paying tribute to Charlie Kirk. This would be the same Abdul El-Sayed who engaged in sympathy with constituents over the death of...Ayatollah Khameini.
Others pointed to his radical associations, underscoring that this is not an isolated lapse but part of a broader pattern on the far left. El-Sayed is friends with Hasan Piker of America deserved 9/11 fame, and has a bunch of other pro-Hamas pals. Far worse, obviously, than Stevens voting with 94 other Dems to condemn Charlie Kirk's assassination.
The disgust was not limited to conservatives but resonated with anyone who still believes political disputes should not be settled with bullets. One user called it the Nastiest post on X today. What a sick person Abdul is, while another wrote, .@AbdulElSayed in Michigan is launching attacks on a rival for voting to honor someone that his political fellow-traveler murdered. Vile beyond belief.
Others drew the obvious conclusion about what it means to attack a resolution that merely denounces political violence. So @AbdulElSayed s campaign is attacking a political rival for a resolution that simply condemned political violence. How do you read this as anything other than expressing support for such violence? Obviously wouldnt be a surprise at this point.
One commentator captured the deeper ideological rot at work on the progressive left, contrasting Stevens minimal decency with the hard-left base El-Sayed is courting. One of the problems with progressivism is that basic humanity that moderate @HaleyforMI has here is a foreign concept to them. Progressives may be economic populists but deep down, they are filthy communists and for that Republicans must crush them.
As President Trumps second administration continues to confront political violence and left-wing extremism, the El-Sayed episode is a stark reminder that parts of the Democrat Party are no longer merely ideological opponents but apologists for those who cheer when conservatives are killed, and voters would do well to remember that when they head to the polls in November.
