President Donald Trump floated the idea of a White House presidents reunion to watch a football game together, musing about inviting his predecessors during a lighthearted appearance on a childrens podcast.
The suggestion came during an episode of Storytime with the Second Lady, where Trump joined Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, to narrate a childrens book; according to Fox News, the podcast features Vance interviewing guests as they read to children on YouTube. As Trump turned to an illustration of a president hosting a Super Bowl watch party at the White House, he told Vance the image sparked a new idea for bringing together Americas commanders-in-chief.
"Maybe I should invite Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, with the Bushes or Bush. Maybe I should invite some of those people to watch a football game together," he suggested. "Wouldn't that be a nice story? The press would go wild."
"A president reunion? That would be fun!" Vance replied, endorsing the notion of a bipartisan gathering centered on Americas most popular sport. Her show has previously welcomed guests ranging from race car driver Danica Patrick to the Artemis II astronauts, underscoring the programs blend of civics, culture, and family-friendly entertainment.
Trumps appearance centered on the book "Presidents Play!" published by the White House Historical Association, which highlights how presidents have spent their leisure time throughout American history. Rather than simply reading the text, Trump offered unscripted, humorous commentary as he flipped through the pages, giving viewers a candid, personality-driven tour of the presidency.
Stopping at an illustration of William Howard Taft tossing a baseball, Trump described the 27th president with characteristic bluntness. "He was a large man, very large. And he loved baseball. He'd go to baseball games, loved the hot dogs at the baseball games," he said. "He was our heaviest president, and I have to be careful 'cause I don't want to supersede his record. And a thing like that would be possible if I allowed it to happen."
He used the moment to urge viewers to take their health seriously, encouraging those watching to stay in good shape. Turning to another page, Trump highlighted an image of Bill Clinton jogging on a track specially constructed for him at the White House.
"That's nice. I didn't even know that until recently, but he had a track built at the White House," Trump said. "I don't think I'll ever do that. I don't see myself doing that. I don't know. But he actually was a nice guy. I like Bill Clinton a lot. I still do."
Trumps remarks came just weeks after his living predecessors, including George W. Bush, Clinton, and Biden, appeared together at Barack Obamas presidential center grand opening, an event from which Trump was notably excluded. His offhand proposal for a football-fueled reunion underscored both his willingness to engage his rivals on common cultural ground and the ongoing divide between the populist conservative movement he leads and the establishment political class that continues to close ranks against him.
