Pirro Drops The Hammer On Reporters Trying To Downplay Reflecting Pool Vandalism

Democrats and their media allies have found a new target in their ongoing crusade against Donald Trump: routine efforts to restore and protect some of Washington, D.C.s most iconic landmarks.

According to RedState, what most Americans would regard as basic civic maintenance has somehow become fodder for partisan outrage, with left-wing commentators sneering at projects to clean up Columbus Circle outside Union Station and to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Rather than applaud the removal of pro-Hamas graffiti or the restoration of a broken fountain, progressive critics appear more comfortable with decay and dysfunction, so long as it can be weaponized against a former Republican president.

The same pattern has emerged with the Reflecting Pool, where the Trump administration backed a project to reseal the basin and fix persistent leaks in front of the Lincoln Memorial. When algae growth discolored parts of the water, leftist activists and pundits treated it as a political victory rather than an engineering setback, cheering what they saw as symbolic failure instead of hoping for a successful repair.

That reaction speaks volumes about the priorities of the modern Left, which seems more invested in scoring rhetorical points than in preserving national heritage. Even those who are sharply critical of President Joe Biden can acknowledge that if his administration undertook similar restoration efforts, they would deserve a fair chance to succeed rather than reflexive derision.

Yet fairness is precisely what is missing from much of the coverage. One left-wing outlet, dripping with condescension, described the controversy this way: Jeanine Pirro, the Fox News host-turned-U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, grew heated over her decision to prosecute a former Olympic canoeist for touching the presidents beloved Reflecting Pool last month.

The framing was misleading on multiple levels, starting with the implication that the Reflecting Pool is somehow the presidents personal property. As critics pointed out, No, you absolute moron, its the beloved Reflecting Pool, not Trump's. And the suspect isn't being charged for it he was indicted for it, as we will describe in a moment.

The same writer went further, dismissing the restoration as a $14 million waste of time, increasing heat absorption and triggering the worst algae bloom in years. Rather than engage seriously with the technical or preservation issues at stake, the commentary descended into juvenile mockery: Heat absorption? Come on, AWFL. Go to Amazon and buy a life.

Jeanine Pirro, now serving as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, has made clear she has little patience for this kind of trivialization of what she describes as serious, repeated damage to a national monument. At a Thursday press conference announcing the indictment of three-time U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn, 67, of Bethesda, Maryland, on a felony destruction of property charge for allegedly tearing up the newly installed blue sealant, Pirro pushed back against reporters who seemed intent on minimizing the alleged vandalism.

When one journalist questioned the basis for the governments case, Pirro invited them to put their skepticism to the test before a grand jury. U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C. Jeanine Pirro: The damage is over $1,000 [on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool]. Reporter: How do you prove that $1,000 [in damage]? Jeanine Pirro: With an expert. Come to the trial.

The exchange continued as the reporter pressed for details about how the damage was allegedly inflicted. Reporter: Did he have any tools or was it just his bare hands? Jeanine Pirro: Right now, we believe it's his bare hands, both hands. Reporter: In your belief, was it probably damaged before? Jeanine Pirro: Oh, he damaged it!

The reporter tried again to suggest preexisting damage, only to be cut off. Reporter: Do you believe there had already been damaged before? Jeanine Pirro: He damaged the pool! Reporter: There are all these videos Jeanine Pirro: Well, good, I'm glad you got that evidence. Come on to the grand jury, you can testify. NEXT!

Even the Reflecting Pool case could not escape the Lefts obsession with January 6, 2021, as some in the press attempted to link the alleged vandalism to the Capitol riot. Would the media try to tie Reflecting Pool vandalism to the events of January 6, 2021? Of course they would! But the two incidents don't actually have anything to do with each other, so Pirro wasnt having it, as RedStates Buzz Patterson noted.

Video of the press conference captured Pirros blunt response when a reporter tried to drag the discussion back to January 6. Jeanine Pirro just pummeled a reporter who asked about J6. (They just wont let the riot go away. Yes, riot). Pirro: Already this is a PROBLEM... Are you REALLY talking about January 6th? REPORTER: YES! PIRRO: I'M NOT! Okay, who's next? NOT YOU! Savage!

That sharp Not you! resonated with many conservatives who are weary of seeing every issue, no matter how mundane, reframed through the prism of Trump hatred and January 6. The fixation has become a convenient excuse for ignoring real problems, from vandalism of public property to the broader breakdown of respect for American institutions and symbols.

What is at stake here is more than a single pool or a single indictment; it is a question of whether the country still values its shared heritage enough to defend it against ideological vandalism and media spin. Weve seen so many performative displays and assaults on basic logic by the Left and their accomplices in the media in the Trump era as they try to justify their increasingly socialist fantasies. The cheering of problems and vandalism at one of the nations most treasured monuments marks yet another low, along with their knee-jerk defense of anti-Trump vandals who stand accused of serious crimes.

For conservatives, the principle is straightforward: public monuments belong to the American people, not to any one president, and they deserve protection regardless of who occupies the White House. Pirro wasnt standing for their BS gaslighting, and nor should any American who believes in this country.
