An FBI corruption probe that has already ensnared former California chief of staff Dana Williamson and now reaches into Gov.
Gavin Newsoms inner circle was quietly fueled for months by a wired insider operating inside Sacramentos Democratic political machine.
According to The Post Millennial, Williamsons attorney, McGregor Scott, revealed that Democratic consultant and Newsom ally Alexis Podesta has been secretly cooperating with federal investigators since at least June 2024, as first reported by the New York Post. Scott stated that Podesta, a well-connected operative in Californias ruling Democrat establishment, served as a covert source for the FBI while the bureau widened its dragnet around the governors office and its political orbit.
Alexis wore a wire, and Dana did not, Scott said, underscoring the extent to which federal agents embedded themselves inside Californias political class. Williamson pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, filing a false tax return, and making false statements to the FBI, admissions that highlight the depth of alleged corruption surrounding the states Democrat leadership.
Federal prosecutors contend Williamson helped siphon roughly $225,000 from a dormant campaign account tied to former California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, now President Joe Bidens Health and Human Services Secretary. Prosecutors allege the money was laundered through sham consulting payments that ultimately benefited Becerras former chief of staff, Sean McCluskie, raising fresh questions about how Democrat power brokers have treated campaign funds as personal slush accounts.
The revelation of Podestas role helps explain why numerous Sacramento politicians and lobbyists received FBI letters last fall notifying them that their phone calls had been intercepted, even though many insist they had no dealings with Williamson. The scope of the surveillance suggests a far-reaching inquiry into the Capitols entrenched political network, long dominated by one-party Democrat rule.
Republican Assemblymember Josh Hoover confirmed he was among those notified that his communications had been monitored. A lot of people received letters essentially informing us that there were certain periods of time where the FBI was given access to follow phone calls, Hoover said.
I dont know how these investigations work, but it sounds like they cast a pretty broad net across the Capitol community to see what they could find. His remarks underscore growing concern among Republicans that federal agents are uncovering systemic abuses inside Californias Democrat-controlled government.
Another source familiar with the matter said at least four Sacramento insiders received similar notifications. One recipient reportedly reacted by saying, Dude, I got this fing letter. I never even met with Dana Williamson!
Their curiosity was that they never even met with Dana Williamson, so they were wondering what this is all about, the source said. And now you have the answer. The widening probe took a dramatic turn last month when Newsom himself announced that he, his wife, and members of his inner circle are under federal investigation, a development that may further expose how deeply corruption has penetrated Californias progressive political establishment.
