Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) openly warned that his own party is drifting so far left that many Democrats no longer even express pride in being American.
Appearing on Fox News Channels Hannity, Fetterman pointed to fresh polling that exposes a troubling cultural shift inside the Democratic Party, according to Breitbart. Fetterman said, [N]ow youve seen the new polls, [only] 45% of Democrats areproud to be American.
From a party that once claimed to represent working-class patriots, the numbers now suggest a base increasingly alienated from the nations core identity and traditions. He added, Well, Im saying, its like, if less than 45% of Democrats are proud to be an American and Im insanely proud and grateful to be American if the numbers are that low, thats why they are nominating people that are an avowed Communist and have deeply anti- views.
Fettermans remarks underscore a broader concern on the right that Democrats are embracing radical candidates who reject American exceptionalism and free-market principles. He continued, So, for me, thats distressing to me as a Democrat, effectively confirming what many conservatives have argued for years about the partys ideological capture by the far left.
At a moment when President Donald Trump and Republicans emphasize national pride, secure borders, and traditional values, Fettermans comments highlight a widening divide over what it means to be American. His candid admission raises a fundamental question for voters: if a major partys base is no longer proud of the country, how can it be trusted to lead and preserve the freedoms and institutions that define it.
