President Donald Trumps effort to launch the nations semiquincentennial with a Freedom 250 Great American State Fair rally has become the latest flashpoint in the lefts ongoing campaign to mock and delegitimize his leadership, with MS NOW host and former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki deriding the celebration as an unmitigated disaster and sneering at his declaration that We have the hottest people!.
According to Mediaite, Trump spoke Wednesday night at the Trump-backed Freedom 250 event in Washington, billed as the kickoff to Americas 250th birthday festivities but quickly transformed by progressive media into a punchline. The gathering, designed as a patriotic showcase on the National Mall, was preceded by weeks of pressure campaigns that led a number of performers to abandon the concert once activists highlighted its association with the president.
On an edition of MS NOW, Psaki used her platform not to examine the political motivations behind those withdrawals, but to ridicule Trumps competence in office. She framed even a national celebration as beyond his abilities, casting what should be a unifying event as further evidence of what she portrays as his unfitness for the presidency.
Lots of other things to talk about because being the President of the United States is a hard job. We all know that. I mean, all the hard decisions land on your desk. Every single president says this, and its true, Psaki told viewers, before pivoting to the parts of the job she insisted should be effortless. But there are actually some parts of the job that are supposed to be well, much easier than others. Simple things that the leader of the free world does in between all of the difficult stuff like, say, throwing a birthday party for America. I mean, thats supposed to be one of those very easy things, right?
From there, Psaki argued that Trump fails even at the ceremonial aspects of the presidency that traditionally transcend partisanship. But for Donald Trump, even the easiest parts of being president somehow all end up being an unmitigated disaster. I mean, take tonights launch of the big Freedom 250 celebration in Washington. Have you been watching any of this? I mean, which kicks off it kicks off with a Trump rally ahead of the so-called Great American State Fair, which begins tomorrow, she said, using the events branding as an opportunity for another jab.
Psaki recounted how the original plan called for a major concert on the National Mall, with a roster of performers that critics quickly mocked as dated. Now, originally, the plan was for this whole thing to launch tonight with a big concert on the National Mall. Last month, Trumps team even announced a slate of musicians that would be headlining the event, and they werent exactly current A-listers. I mean, one of the headliners was one half of the infamous European lip syncing pop duo Milli Vanilli. Bret Michaels of Poison fame was included. Martina McBride, you get the idea, she said, dismissing the lineup rather than acknowledging the cultural divide between coastal elites and the heartland audience that still embraces such acts.
Within hours of realizing the concert would be tied directly to Trump, several of those artists backed out, a familiar pattern whenever conservative events are targeted by organized outrage. Within a matter of hours, once it became clear to those artists that the concert would be associated with Donald Trump, even those artists started dropping out of the concert one by one, until eventually, Trump effectively pulled the plug, calling for that big concert to be canceled, Psaki said, presenting the withdrawals as a personal failure rather than the result of political pressure and industry groupthink.
Despite the cancellations, Trump publicly vowed that the Freedom 250 launch would still be a major draw, leaning into his signature showman style. In a clip aired by MS NOW, he told supporters, Were going to have the biggest rally weve ever had. Its going to be on the National Mall. Its our music, our playlist. We dont have a lot of people boring you with songs that you dont want to hear. We have the hottest people, the hottest everything!
Psaki seized on that boast to continue her mockery, turning what his base would see as lighthearted bravado into another line of attack. They have the hottest people! Glenn Greenwood , Im looking at you. Its a big day for you. The hottest everything. They dont have a lot of people boring you with the songs you dont want to hear, she said, before zeroing in on one of the lesser-known performers.
So who did Trump manage to book for his big event? Who was the big name they managed to lock in? Well, its Kash Patels 27-year-old girlfriend. Get excited everybody, Psaki continued, referring to the former Trump national security official and close ally. She then added, The FBI directors 27-year-old girlfriend is a featured performer at Trumps big celebration, which Im sure was thrilling news for all of these 6,000 people who are following her budding country music career on Spotify. Im sure they are absolutely delighted.
Psaki went on to claim that it was not only musicians distancing themselves from the Freedom 250 festivities, but also state governments that should, in theory, have a stake in a national anniversary. But it turns out well-known musicians are not the only ones dropping out of Trumps big state fair. The website for the event says it will feature more than 150 exhibits from all 50 states and territories. Sounds good, right? she said, before highlighting reports of withdrawals.
Only it turns out that some of Americas states and territories are just as reluctant to participate in this thing as Milli Vanilli or one half of Milli Vanilli, to be exact, because several states have now also announced that they are pulling out of this event, too. According to various news outlets, at least 10 states have dropped out and will not have exhibits at the event, Psaki told viewers, using the figure to argue that Trump couldnt even get all 50 states of the United States of America to attend the Great American State Fair.
She also cited a report about a local food vendor to underscore her theme that the event was mismanaged from top to bottom. And he cant even deliver on the food he promised for this event, it turns out, because yesterday Axios reported that a local D.C. sandwich shop that appeared on the events vendor list said they never agreed to participate in the fair at all. Again, this is this is supposed to be the kind of thing that is easy for a president. Its the kind of kind of the presidential equivalent of a local politician showing up at a ribbon cutting ceremony, but Donald Trump cant even pull this off, she said, reducing a complex, politically charged planning process to a late-night comedy bit.
For conservatives, the Freedom 250 saga and Psakis gleeful commentary highlight a broader reality: any attempt by Trump or his allies to celebrate American history and culture will be met with coordinated resistance from the entertainment industry, blue-state officials, and a media class eager to portray patriotic pageantry as incompetence. While Psaki urged viewers to Watch above via MS NOWs, her segment ultimately underscored how a milestone that should unite the country is instead being filtered through partisan lenses, with the left mocking the effort and the right seeing yet another example of cultural institutions punishing anyone who dares to stand with Trump and his vision of American greatness.
