Van Jones Sounds Alarm As New York Leftists Humiliate Schumer-Backed Democrats In Stunning Primary Revolt

Democratic voters in New York delivered a sharp rebuke to their partys establishment in Tuesdays primaries, handing a slate of left-wing insurgents decisive victories over entrenched incumbents.

According to Mediaite, CNN commentator Van Jones framed the results as a watershed moment for the partys internal power struggle, particularly in New York City, long considered a bastion of institutional Democratic power. Mayor Zohrani Mamdani, a prominent figure on the partys far-left flank, had endorsed three progressive candidates for Congress, and all three prevailed on Tuesday night, underscoring the growing clout of the Democratic Socialist wing.

Brad Lander, the former New York City comptroller, crushed Rep. Dan Goldman in the 10th District, securing the nomination in what had been viewed as a safe establishment seat. In the 13th District, union organizer Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat, while state Rep. Claire Valdez trounced Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso in the 7th District, further signaling a revolt against party leadership.

As of press time, Lander led Goldman by 33 points, Chevalier held a 3.5-point advantage, and Valdez was ahead by 20 points, margins that leave little doubt about the direction of the Democratic base in these deep-blue districts. On CNN, Jones argued that the results showed rank-and-file Democrats are increasingly disillusioned with the partys power brokers, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both of whom hail from New York City.

Well first of all, New York City matters because the two most exciting left-wing candidates are here, AOC and Mamdani, Jones said, casting the city as the epicenter of the partys ideological clash. But also this is the stronghold for the establishment. Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. This is a battle between the establishment and this insurgency.

And the roof is collapsing on the Democratic Party establishment tonight, he continued, warning party leaders that their grip on power is slipping. If Mamdani gets a hat trick, three out of three, this is a new era for the Democratic Party. And you cant write off New York City because this is the place where both of its a power center for the establishment and the insurgency. And theyre going head to head tonight. And right now, this is no longer a movement. This is a movement and a machine at the same time. And theres just no way to sugarcoat this. If Mamdani pulls off a hat trick is a new era in Democratic Party politics.

Jones later summed up the night bluntly, declaring, This is a straight-up battle between the establishment and the insurgency. And the establishment is getting its butt kicked tonight in New York City. Earlier in the day, Politico reported that Schumer had been working to stave off the march of Democratic insurgents Mamdani had backed, but the results suggest that effort failed and that the party is drifting further left, even as the country remains deeply divided and wary of progressive overreach.

The three victorious nominees are expected to win easily in November, as their districts are solidly Democratic, effectively guaranteeing that Congress will seat even more lawmakers aligned with the partys most radical wing. For conservatives, the trend underscores a Democratic Party increasingly dominated by activists hostile to traditional values, limited government, and free-market principlesan opening for Republicans, including President Donald Trumps movement, to present themselves as the last line of defense against an emboldened progressive machine.
