A routine morning on Marylands Severn River turned perilous this week when members of the U.
S. Coast Guard carried out a high-risk boarding to halt a speeding unmanned vessel after its operator was thrown into the water.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, video of the incident shows a Coast Guard crew intercepting the runaway craft before one Coast Guardsman made a dramatic leap onto the moving boat and brought it under control. The swift, decisive action by these service members likely averted a serious disaster as the pilotless vessel continued racing across the river, posing a danger to nearby boaters and anyone in its path.
According to Anne Arundel First Alert, emergency crews were initially dispatched at about 9:15 a.m. following reports of people in the water in the Severn River. The wife of the man thrown overboard told Anne Arundel First Alert that her husband was assisting with docking operations of a jet ski when a large wave struck the vessel, knocking him overboard.
Witnesses reported that the boats engine never disengaged, and the vessel accelerated away without anyone at the controls. Video from the scene shows the craft speeding and circling through the water as police boats and private vessels held back, unable to safely intervene while the boat careened across the river.
The mans son, using a nearby WaveRunner, managed to reach his father in the water and help bring him safely back to shore. Meanwhile, Coast Guard personnel on a patrol boat skillfully pinned the runaway vessel during a turn, creating a narrow window to end the crisis.
One brave officer then jumped from the Coast Guard boat onto the speeding runaway, shut down the engines, and ended the threat, according to the account, in a display of courage and competence that underscores why strong, well-supported law enforcement and maritime security remain essential. Video by Sam Thomas captured the dramatic sequence, offering a stark reminder that in moments of sudden danger, it is disciplined professionalsnot bureaucracy or regulationwho stand between chaos and public safety.
