Defeated Texas Senator John Cornyn is lashing out at President Donald Trump after losing his Republican primary to Attorney General Ken Paxton, blaming the Presidents influence for his political downfall while predicting chaos ahead for the GOP.

According to Gateway Pundit, Cornyn used a recent interview with The New York Times to forecast political turmoil if Republicans underperform in the midterm elections, warning that the President will face the most miserable two years of his life. He further suggested that Senate Republicans who are retiring or have been ousted in primaries will feel emboldened to resist the White House agenda during the remainder of Trumps term, a clear signal that some in the old guard intend to obstruct the populist direction favored by the partys base.

I think it is going to be a pretty bumpy ride for the next seven months, Cornyn said, openly hinting at internal resistance rather than party unity. It does give some of us a little more freedom, and certainly leverage.

Cornyn, who was decisively defeated by Paxton despite a late attempt to secure Trumps backing, appeared especially resentful over the Presidents decision to endorse his challenger. If thats the way friends treat you, you wonder about his enemies, Cornyn said, after Trump had previously described him as a friend while still throwing his support behind Paxtons campaign.

The outgoing senator went further, accusing Trump of demanding unquestioning loyalty from Republican lawmakers who have benefited from his popularity with conservative voters. Theres never going to be good enough for him, other than 100 percent, you know, slavish adherence to whatever he wants, Cornyn said. But obviously thats not what the senators role is supposed to be.

Cornyn argued that Trumps endorsement of Paxton could damage Republicans politically, particularly in key races. Its going to make things harder, certainly more expensive in Texas, and make it harder around the country, he said. Hes going to have the most miserable two years of his life in the last two years of his term, I think, because I think November is going to be a disaster.

Paxtons victory, powered by Trumps endorsement, ended Cornyns more than two decades in Washington and underscored the strength of the MAGA movement over establishment Republicans. Throughout the campaign, Cornyn repeatedly attacked Paxton and questioned his fitness for office, while Paxton successfully presented himself as the more reliable MAGA candidate aligned with grassroots conservatives.

Despite his current criticism of Trump, Cornyn insisted that his voting record was almost always in line with the Presidents agenda, a claim that did little to sway primary voters who wanted a stronger America First champion. Ive always said that former senators look happier, healthier, and theyre certainly more prosperous, Cornyn said of his looming exit from Congress. So, Im kind of, like, looking forward to what comes next.
