A New York township is moving swiftly to defend traditional family language as state lawmakers advance a bill that would scrub the words mother and father from state law in favor of gender-neutral terminology.
According to WND, the town of Hempstead on Long Island is pushing back against what many residents see as yet another attempt by Albany Democrats to impose radical gender ideology on families who simply want their laws to reflect biological reality and time?honored values. The controversial bill, passed by the Democrat-controlled legislature but not yet signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul, would replace mother and father with terms such as gestating parent and non-gestating parent, a change critics say is designed to appease a small activist minority at the expense of everyone else.
Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti, a Republican, made clear he views the measure as a direct affront to the family unit and to parents like himself who reject the lefts ongoing effort to rewrite basic language. As a father of two, it was an insult to me and to my wife. As soon as I learned, the first thing I did was bring my wife into our bedroom and say, Look what they did up in Albany. Theyre eliminating the terms mother and father from state law.'
The impact of the proposal, Ferretti noted, is not theoretical for ordinary families trying to raise children with clear moral and biological foundations. He recalled his 9-year-old daughter overheard, and asked, Can I still call you dad?'
For Ferretti, that simple question underscored how deeply the lefts social experiments can unsettle children who are already navigating a confusing culture. He said, It really hit close to home. We need to take a stand in the town of Hempstead, the largest township in America, and make sure that we make it clear not just to residents in the town of Hempstead, but to residents throughout New York state, that we wont stand for this kind of woke nonsense.
A report at Fox News notes that lawmakers backing the bill want to erase mother and father and instead use gestating parent and non-gestating parent, language more at home in a medical manual than in family law. In response, Hempstead officials have drafted an emergency resolution to safeguard the use of traditional parental terms in all town codes and regulations, regardless of what Albany does.
Democrats in the legislature insist the measure is about being more inclusive of residents with unconventional gender identities, a justification conservatives say has become a catch?all excuse to dismantle long?standing norms. Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, has not yet signed the bill and has until the end of the year to decide whether to enshrine this ideological language into state law.
Ferretti emphasized that Hempsteads emergency action is designed to draw a clear line in defense of the traditional family against an increasingly aggressive progressive agenda. Ferretti explained the emergency move from Hempstead is to ensure the town continues to recognize mother and father in its own laws, regardless of the states politicized actions.
He also stressed that the bill does not merely add new terms but deliberately strips out the foundational language of family life. Ferretti said, Were taking a stand because we will not allow woke Democrat liberals in New York state and the New York state legislature to erase the traditional family. They did not pass a law that adds language. They passed a law that erases mother and father from certain statutes under New York state law, and thats completely unacceptable.
According to the report, the Hempstead resolution has already drawn backing from Nassau County leaders who share concerns about the leftward lurch in Albany. Ferretti said, in the report, the resolution has gained support from representatives of Nassau County, including Assembly Minority Leader Ed Ra, and others.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a Republican and candidate for governor, framed the issue as emblematic of what is at stake in New Yorks political future. Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive and Republican candidate for governor, pointed out, In Kathy Hochuls New York, mom is now defined as gestating parent. Not when Im governor!
The clash over parental terminology follows earlier local decisions in New York to refuse recognition of biological males as females for purposes of womens sports and access to female facilities, a stance more aligned with President Trumps emphasis on protecting womens spaces and restoring common sense to public policy. As Hempstead and Nassau County leaders rally support, the fight over whether the state will officially erase mother and father from its statutes is emerging as a defining test of whether New Yorkers will accept the lefts linguistic reengineering or insist that government respect the natural family that has anchored civilization for generations.
