President Donald Trump has intensified his pressure campaign on Senate Republican leadership, demanding that Senate Majority Leader John Thune immediately dismiss Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough and move swiftly to pass the SAVE America Act.
According to The Gateway Pundit, Trumps latest broadside targets MacDonough, an Obama-era appointee, whom he accuses of systematically undermining conservative priorities in the upper chamber. She is known as a Radical Left Lunatic that caters to Democrats, and has no respect for Republicans, or Republican Ideology. Just the other night, as an example, she ruled against us on a proposal that would have easily been approved, and should have been, by anyone else, Trump said, after MacDonough ruled that the SAVE America Act violated the Byrd rule and ordered it stripped from the Senates reconciliation bill.
Trump argued that Republicans are under no obligation to tolerate a procedural gatekeeper he views as openly hostile to their agenda and urged immediate action from Thune. We have every right to change her, and should do so, IMMEDIATELY. As long as shes there, we will never get our desperately needed, SAVE AMERICA ACT, approved, and put into full force and effect! President DONALD J. TRUMP, he added, framing the fight as existential for the future of conservative governance.
The Senate Majority Leader has the authority to dismiss the Parliamentarian at any time, a power Democrats have not hesitated to use when their priorities were at stake. From a conservative standpoint, many argue this should have been one of the first moves when Republicans reclaimed control, particularly given the Parliamentarians record of rulings that have repeatedly frustrated GOP border security and spending reforms.
Thune, however, has publicly rebuffed Trumps demand, signaling a familiar pattern of Republican leadership retreating from confrontation over procedural norms even as Democrats routinely bend them.
Responding to the president, Thune said, Thats, I guess, his opinion. But that would create even more vote issues here if we were to try and do something like that, suggesting that protecting Senate process has taken precedence over advancing the conservative agenda voters elected them to pursue.
Thune has previously resisted Trumps calls to remove the Parliamentarian, reinforcing the divide between the partys populist base and its more cautious establishment wing. For many grassroots conservatives, this reluctance is emblematic of a broader unwillingness by GOP leaders to use every lawful tool available to secure the border, rein in spending, and confront the entrenched bureaucracy.
Trump also reminded supporters that MacDonoughs tenure traces back to Democratic leadership, underscoring his claim that she is aligned with the left and hostile to Republican priorities. He noted that she was installed under Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama and described her as a nasty holdover from Mitch McConnell (A man who has proven to be very disloyal to John Thune!).
McConnell, Trump continued, decided to keep her because he loved giving Trillions of Dollars to the Democrats, but for the Republicans, including the Wall, where I ended up having to go around him to build over 1,000 Miles, and close up our Open Border, he gave NOTHING! That criticism reflects a long-standing conservative frustration that Republican leadership has too often facilitated massive Democrat spending while failing to deliver on core promises such as border security and immigration enforcement.
