Democrat Xavier Becerra, President Joe Bidens former Health and Human Services Secretary, surged into contention in Californias gubernatorial primary 48 hours after polls closed, raising fresh concerns among conservatives about the integrity of the states election process.
According to Gateway Pundit, Republican hopeful Steve Hilton held the lead on Tuesday evening shortly after polls closed and, despite the late shift, he is still holding on. Yet two days after Election Day, only 57 percent of ballots had been counted, while a flood of mail-in votes arriving after election night began to tilt the race toward Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer.
Current tallies show Becerra with 1,468,875 votes, or 26.04 percent, while Hilton maintains a narrow but comfortable lead, holding on with 1,532,530 votes at 27.17%. Democrat Tom Steyer stands at 1,139,578 votes, representing 20.18 percent, as the slow count and late-arriving ballots continue to fuel skepticism about Californias election practices.
ABC 10 has provided additional coverage of the California governors primary, but conservatives recall that Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom recently boasted of a secret break the glass strategy to block any Republican from winning the governorship. That admission, combined with the prolonged counting and mail-in ballot surge, has only deepened distrust among voters who already question Sacramentos commitment to transparent, accountable elections.
President Trump, speaking late Wednesday and into Thursday, warned that Democrats are attempting to steal the California primary elections. Addressing reporters at the White House, he charged that California is manipulating the process, declaring, You see whats happening in California. Theyre rigging the election.
The President emphasized that election integrity, not partisan advantage, is at stake, insisting, We just dont want cheating in our elections, and you see it happening in California. Those numbers are coming down rapidly. They found a lot of mail-in ballots last night, shockingly. So, we dont want that, he added, underscoring conservative fears that expansive mail-in voting and opaque counting procedures are undermining voters faith in the system.
