Kathy Hochul Just Invented A Fake Knicks Championship To Dunk On TrumpAnd It Backfired Spectacularly

Democrats obsession with attacking President Donald Trump has now reached the point where even the New York Knicks have been dragged into the resistance spectacle.

With the Knicks bound for their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999, President Trump remarked during a Cabinet meeting that he was interested in attending a game after receiving an invitation from team owner Jim Dolan. According to Western Journal, the president praised the long-suffering franchise, saying, The Knicks have really, theyve really suffered for years and theyre doing right now very well, while noting he had been invited as he weighed a possible appearance at Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

That plan never materialized, as the Knicks swept the series in four games and secured their place in the Finals before a Game 5 could even be played. Under normal circumstances, that would have been the end of a routine sports-related aside from a president who has long been associated with New York City.

Instead, Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul seized on the moment to take a gratuitous swipe at Trump over something as mundane as his support for a hometown basketball team. Asked Wednesday about Trumps lifelong Knicks fandom, Hochul opted for a snarky one-liner rather than a factual response.

Id ask him to name the starting lineup from the 1993 Championship team and see how he does, she said, according to the New York Post. The problem, of course, is that there was no 1993 Knicks championship team for anyone to name.

The Knicks did not win the NBA title in 1993, nor did they even reach the Finals that year. The 1993 NBA Finals instead featured Michael Jordans Chicago Bulls defeating the Phoenix Suns in six games to complete Chicagos first three-peat.

New York did make the Finals the following season in 1994, only to fall short. Houston defeated New York in seven games, closing out the series with a 90-84 Game 7 victory that extended the Knicks championship drought.

The franchises last actual NBA title dates back to 1973, when the Knicks were still a powerhouse and Madison Square Garden was home to a reigning champion. Richard Nixon was still president of the United States the last time the Knicks hoisted a Larry OBrien Trophy, underscoring just how far Hochuls invented 1993 Championship team strayed from reality.

It is difficult to overstate how embarrassing this episode is for the governor, who was so determined to land a partisan jab at President Trump that she conjured a Knicks title out of thin air. The moment encapsulates a broader pattern on the left: narrative first, facts laterif at all.

Donald Trump Jr. quickly called out the blunder on X, defending his fathers sports acumen while ridiculing Hochuls failed attempt at humor. Anyone who knows my father knows he probably knows more about Sports than just about any human being not in the business, Trump Jr. wrote, adding pointedly, Kathys failed soundbite aint gonna land well just like her policies.

For a governor presiding over crime, economic strain, and an exodus of residents from New York, misrepresenting basic sports history to score a fleeting partisan punchline only reinforces the perception of skewed priorities. When Democrats are so fixated on attacking President Trump that they are willing to rewrite Knicks history, it says far more about their political desperation than about his credibility as a New Yorker or a sports fan.
