CNN anchor Abby Phillip openly questioned the Democratic Partys deceptiveness about Joe Bidens health after Jill Biden admitted she feared her husband was suffering a medical emergency during his disastrous 2024 debate with President Donald Trump.
The former first ladys revelation surfaced in a preview clip released from an upcoming CBS News interview with correspondent Rita Braver. According to Mediaite, Jill Biden recounted being so frightened by the presidents faltering performance that she believed something might be gravely wrong on stage, a stark departure from the polished reassurances Democrats offered voters at the time.
She confessed, I mean, as I watched it, I thought, Oh my God, hes having a stroke and it scared me to death. The full interview is slated to air later this week, raising fresh questions about what senior Democrats knew and chose not to disclose as Biden struggled in front of a national audience.
After airing the CBS clip on CNNs NewsNight, Phillip underscored how Jill Bidens private alarm stands in stark contrast with her public praise of the presidents debate performance. Even Joe Biden seems a little amused by that, Phillip remarked, highlighting the disconnect between the Biden camps messaging and what was apparently happening behind the scenes.
When panelists argued that Jill Bidens admission validated widespread concerns about Bidens fitness, Phillip went further, calling out the broader pattern of concealment. I appreciate that we now get to see at least some version of a truth that shes putting out there, because I think, yeah, the conversation should be had about the deceptiveness that was behind this, she said.
Like thats the conversation that I think ought to be had, Phillip continued, suggesting Democrats conducted only a superficial autopsy of their 2024 collapse. The autopsy that the Democrats did, didnt delve into that but it should. What kind of political system covers that up? And makes it OK to lie to people about what everybody knows is true?
Phillip then recalled that concerns about Bidens cognitive state were raised at the beginning of the 2024 race, only to be aggressively dismissed by the administration. She noted that the initial report on Bidens mental acuity was attacked relentlessly by the Biden White House, adding, That was before the book. That was before all of this post-partum stuff. It was happening in real time, a timeline that underscores how long Democratic leaders and their media allies worked to shield voters from the truth.
