Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continues to defy both political expectations and personal stereotypes, emerging as one of the more colorful and unconventional figures in President Donald Trumps second-term Cabinet.
A scion of one of Americas most storied Democratic dynasties and a former Democrat himself, Kennedys presence in a conservative administration underscores President Trumps willingness to prioritize results over party labels, according to RedState. At 72, he now cuts the figure of robust health, a walking advertisement for the Make America Healthy Again movement that helped propel him into his current role.
Kennedy has become a favorite among parents for his outspoken advocacy on childrens physical and mental well-being, a focus that aligns with a traditional conservative emphasis on family and personal responsibility. That same fearless streak appears to extend well beyond policy debates and into his encounters with the natural world.
In a recent social media post, Kennedy shared that he and his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, were visiting the home of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz when two uninvited guests slithered onto the patio. Rather than call animal control or retreat indoors, Kennedy strode over and personally handled the situation.
"Cheryl cheerleads the removal of a pair of Black Racers from Dr Oz's patio," RFK Jr. posted, pairing the remark with video of the episode. The description was tongue-in-cheek, as Hines was visibly more anxious than enthusiastic while her husband grabbed the snakes.
"Honey, honey. Let them go," Hines said, clearly concerned, as any wife might be watching her husband tangle with wild reptiles. At one point, one of the snakes appeared to bite Kennedy on the hand, but he remained unfazed.
Kennedy initially joked that the snakes were "moccasins," a dangerous species, before clarifying that they were not. He identified them as "black racers," a common non-venomous snake in the South that can still deliver a painful bite, as the footage seemed to confirm.
The episode fits a long-running pattern for Kennedy, who has spent considerable time around wildlife since his youth and appears to have a natural affinity for such encounters. In another post, he shared a brief clip labeled, "Starling rescue today at Dulles Airport."
His social media feed also features a July 2024 video in which he calmly captures and relocates a rattlesnake he discovered in his driveway. For a Cabinet secretary, it is an unusually hands-on approach to backyard hazards, but one that has only added to his legend among supporters.
Online reaction to his snake-handling exploits ranged from admiration to amused disbelief, with many viewers dubbing his behavior either beast mode or borderline crazy. The consensus, however, leaned heavily toward admiration, with some joking that he had "caught lunch."
One commenter declared, "I would 100% watch a crocodile Hunter style show with him in it," imagining Kennedy as a kind of conservative Steve Irwin. Another quipped about "RFK's Secret Service attachment whenever he's around wildlife," highlighting the unique security challenges posed by a principal who insists on grabbing snakes with his bare hands.
As one viral reaction put it, "LMAO! RFK Jr. just wrangled a pair of SNAKES on Dr. Ozs patio This dudes an absolute legend ??." For a Trump administration focused on strength, resilience, and personal grit, Kennedys blend of health advocacy and bare-handed snake wrangling only reinforces his image as an unconventional, but undeniably formidable, member of the Presidents team.
