Democrats Kill Smithsonian Womens Museum Because It Would Honor Biological Women Only

Democrats in the U.S. House have effectively derailed plans for a Smithsonian womens museum on the National Mall for the simple reason that it would be dedicated to actual women.

According to WND, the legislation to secure a site for the Smithsonian American Womens History Museum collapsed once conservatives insisted on clarifying that the museum would honor biological women only, a position now treated as controversial by the lefts gender ideologues. As reported by WND, The measure came up short in a vote of 204-216 after a handful of conservative GOP lawmakers joined Democrats in tanking the legislation that would secure a site for the forthcoming Smithsonian American Womens History Museum on the grounds of the Mall, explained a report from Fox News.

Some Republicans opposed the bill on more traditional grounds, questioning whether a separate womens history museum was necessary or whether it would become yet another taxpayer-funded platform for progressive activism. Others focused on the lack of clear safeguards against the injection of radical gender theory and left-wing identity politics into what was supposed to be a celebration of womens achievements.

The future of the project is now uncertain, with the report noting it was unclear whether Republican leadership would move to bring the legislation back for another vote. For Democrats, however, the sticking point was explicit: they objected to honoring women unless the museum also recognized men who identify as women.

It was the Democratic Womens Caucus that led the charge against the bill, lobbying against the museum specifically because the language would not recognize transgender women and girls. They branded the requirement that the museum focus on biological women as a poison pill, underscoring how far identity politics has drifted from basic biological reality.

At the center of the dispute was an amendment from Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., which stated, The Museum shall be dedicated to preserving, researching, and presenting the history, achievements and lived experiences of biological women in the United States. The legislation further prohibited the museum from depicting any biological male as female, a direct challenge to the lefts insistence that self-declared gender identity must override biological sex.

That statutory language aligns with President Donald Trumps executive order last year, which barred federal entities from presenting men as females, reaffirming a common-sense standard rooted in science and tradition. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., highlighted the Democrats reaction, saying, The addition of the word biological made them all run for the hills, and warning, If thats controversial in the Democratic Party, were in serious trouble. The party that purports to support women, demanding that the museum include biological men.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., echoed that concern, stressing that the very concept of a womens museum is being hollowed out by gender ideology. A womens history museum is supposed to be dedicated to women, period. And the fact that theyre going to pull their support after overwhelmingly co-sponsoring this bill because the word biological was inserted, to me, is ludicrous, she said.

Media observers noted the timing of the vote, which came just after the release of the DNCs own autopsy of its 2024 presidential defeat, a report that admitted transgender and identity politics had helped sink the partys chances. That document singled out President Trumps blunt, populist framing: Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you, a contrast that continues to resonate with voters who believe that protecting womens spaces, language, and history should not be sacrificed to ideological fashion.
