President Donald Trump is throwing his support behind a congressional push to make Daylight Saving Time permanent nationwide.
According to WND, the latest effort to end the twice-yearly ritual of changing clocks advanced decisively when the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 48-1 to back a measure that would lock in Daylight Saving Time year-round. The move would effectively abolish the long-criticized practice of springing forward in March and falling back in November, a system many Americans see as outdated and disruptive to family life, business schedules, and public safety.
The initiative, long favored by many conservatives who prefer stability and less federal meddling in daily routines, still faces resistance from defenders of the current system and from those who argue that Standard Time should be the permanent norm. Yet the overwhelming committee vote suggests that the political momentum is now with those who want more evening daylight, a position that aligns with President Trumps emphasis on practical reforms that reduce waste and government-imposed hassles.
Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent! This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive! Trump wrote on social media. Its time that people can stop worrying about the Clock, not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production. It will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party. Take it! We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day And who can be against that This is an easy one! the president declared.
Fox News reported that the office of Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., stated, The Sunshine Protection Act was included as a provision within an Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute (AINS) to the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, which was marked up and sent to the House floor by the House Energy and Commerce Committee today. Buchanan noted that the House bill already has 32 bipartisan cosponsors, while a Senate companion measure introduced by Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., has attracted 18 bipartisan cosponsors, signaling broad support that crosses party lines even as it delivers a clear policy win for Republicans.
As the proposal moves to the House floor and potentially on to the Senate, conservatives see an opportunity to champion a reform that reduces needless costs, respects Americans time, and reflects popular sentiment against what Trump called a ridiculous, twice yearly production. With strong backing from Republican leaders and growing bipartisan support, the Sunshine Protection Act now stands as a test of whether Congress is willing to enact a simple, common-sense change that many voters have demanded for years.
