Five illegal immigrants from the notorious MS-13 gang have been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Limber Lopez in Frederick County, Maryland, earlier this year, according to Fox 5 DC.
Lopez was reported missing by his family in late February, and his body was discovered more than a month later near Gambrill State Park, just outside of Frederick. The suspects charged with first-degree murder are Alexis Alfredo Ayala Lopez, 21; Jose Roberto Ramos Lopez, 23; Ismael Lopez Lopez, 29; Elmer Bladimir Reyes Reyes, 27; and Ismael Ivan Rivera Canales, 20. All of them are in the United States illegally, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
During the investigation, detectives gathered forensic, digital, and video evidence that led them to the suspects' identities. Arrest warrants were issued for the suspects, and on May 26, 2023, several search and seizure warrants were executed to apprehend them.
Frederick police chief Jason Lando said in a statement that his team had spent countless hours following leads and conducting searches all over the county since Lopez was first reported missing.
"We were all hoping to find Limber alive and well, but sadly that did not happen," he said. "On behalf of the entire team at FPD, our hearts go out to the victim's family. While we know it will not bring Limber back, we hope the arrests in this case will offer some closure to the Lopez Funez family."
